MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS

Mr. McDuffee

 

The manufacturing courses provide students with a general introduction to the material processing and systems of a manufacturing activity.  Emphasis is placed on the development of a conceptual understanding of the three processes of separating, forming and combining through hands on activities.   The student uses a managed sequence of activities of manufacturing raw materials into useful products.  The products the students make give them a sense of accomplishment and an understanding of the many procedures needed in creating a product.

 

 

OBJECTIVES

 

At the completion of this course, students will be able to:

1.      Understand the major processes used to change raw materials into products.

2.      Complete some common secondary material processes.

3.      Develop skill in the use of tools and materials associated with manufacturing.

4.      Understand the importance of quality throughout the manufacturing process.

5.      Identify expectations in the workplace.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS

 

            Lectures, demonstrations, laboratory activities, cooperative learning, group

discussions, individual tutoring and peer instructuion/mentoring.

 

 

TOPICS

 

        Energy, work, simple machines, resistance, force, electricity, machines and tools, safety.

 

 

GRADING

 

1.      Class Participation (Weekly) 30%

2.      Projects 50%

3.      Tests/Quizzes 10%

4.      Technical Report 10%
