Construction Systems II

(Room 181)

 

This course will provide the students with the opportunity to acquire skills in the area of basic construction.  Emphasis is placed on the understanding of how to safely and properly use a variety of hand and power tools. The use of a variety of materials as well as joinery techniques will be discussed and experimented with.  Students will also become familiar with careers that are associated with the field of construction. This course focuses on problem solving and decision-making processes through the completion of projects. Students will be expected to participate fully in the completion of small buildings in order to better understand concepts associated with residential construction.

 

Class Objectives

1. Students will use safe and proper techniques while working in the construction lab.

 

2. Students will work cooperatively in the lab. environment to produce a small structure such as a shed

 

3. Students will understand how planning and design of a product are key components of the construction process.

 

4. Students will understand how topics related to foundations, wall framing, roof structures, plumbing, electrical and site planning are key components of today’s construction trade.

 

5. Students will explore careers that are associated with the field of construction.

 

6. Students will begin to understand how concepts discussed in the lab. environment will affect their lives today, tomorrow and in 20 years.

Note: Class attendance is critical. Unexcused absences and tardiness will be made up after school at the teacher’s discretion.
