What We're Learning:

Reading
We will connect and compare literature this week with stories, "Little Grunt and the Big Egg" and "Mighty Dinosaurs".  Little Grunt is a story with fantasy genre, while Mighty Dinosaurs is a nonfiction informational book.  We will compare the two genres.  In language we will continue working on /r/ controlled vowels and base words and special endings.
Science
Our habitats look great!  We have some very creative students.  I think they all enjoyed creating their habitats.  They are on display in the library if you'd like to come in and take a look.  We will finish up our unit on habitats and environments this week and on Monday (2-15-10), we will write about what we've learned. We will work on answering questions in complete sentences for our 'Think About It' science lessons.
Math
We will continue working on Topic 8 this week.  We will try different strategies for adding numbers and regrouping tens.  Students are learning that if they have a group of ten or more in the one's place, they can trade them out for groups of tens.  Work with your child in grouping things into tens.  Practice makes perfect!!!

100th Day
As of right now, our 100th day of school will be on Thursday.  We have lots of activities planned for the second graders.  They will also be working on a project at home.  The projects will be displayed on Thursday for all second graders to observe.  Help your child be creative, originality is always fun to look at!

Valentine Party
Our Valentine party will be on Friday at 1:40.  You are welcome to come and help or just come and enjoy.
Have a great week!
