Language Arts Homework:

Monday, February 8th - Thursday

We went to the library Friday to check out a new fiction AR book. Tests must be taken by Monday, February 22nd.

As soon as copiers are fixed in the school, we will have our quote test that was scheduled for Monday. Stay prepared.

Monday - COE book recommendation paper due tomorrow (ink copy, rough draft and tri-fold stapled together)

Tuesday - Read new novel for AR test 5 - Feb. 22

Wednesday - read novel

All AR book of choice reading tests were to be taken by Monday, January 25th. Students will start a new book of choice to read at home and during homeroom silent reading time. If a student scored below 70 percent they may choose to read another AR book and replace the poor grade. Those students should see me for details.

Monday - Study for the vocabulary test, complete vocabulary worksheet & write City of Ember paragraph: (If you could give the city of Ember one thing what would it be and why.)

Tuesday - Study for the vocabulary test & complete vocabulary worksheet.

Tuesday, January 19th - Thursday, January 21st

AR book tests must be taken by next Monday (January 25th)

Tuesday - Take home quiz on City of Ember (chapters 1-4) and read AR book as needed

Wednesday - Quote w/s, write new spelling words 4 times (2x print & 2x cursive) and read AR book as needed

Thursday - Use each vocabulary word in a sentence (14 sentences one for each word) and read the AR book as needed

NEW LIBRARY BOOK: Last Friday we checked out our fourth AR book. Students must complete and test on their book by Monday, January 25th. We are reading a seperate book in class, City of Ember. The AR book is to be read during homeroom and at home.

TESTS THIS WEEK: Wednesday - Spelling/Vocabulary & Friday - Prepositions

Monday - Study for vocabulary test (Wednesday), Write 40 prepositions on notebook paper once & read new AR book 20 minutes.

Tuesday - Study for vocabulary test (Wednesday), Write 40 prepositions on notebook paper once & read new AR book 20 minutes.

Wednesday - Study for preposition test (Friday) , read new AR book 20 minutes & complete quotation worksheet.

Thursday - Study for preposition test tomorrow & read new AR book 20 minutes.

 

Monday, January 4th - Thursday, January 7th

Monday - Write vocabulary words 4 times (2x print & 2x cursive)

Tuesday - Write a sentence for each vocabulary word

Wednesday - Make flashcards for each vocabulary word

Thursday - Write a well developed paragraph about some part of your break using 8 vocabulary words. Underline the vocabulary words.

Monday, Nov. 23rd - Tuesday, Nov. 24th

Monday - Study for grammar test tomorrow (use the 3 grammar pretest homework handouts as guides)  & finish Thanksgiving cartoon from class.

Tuesday - No homework:)

Students are responsible for taking the AR test on their fiction book of choice by Tuesday, November 10th. Papers on the books will be assigned following the AR test deadline.

Monday, Oct. 26 - Thursday Oct. 30

Students checked out a new fiction AR book last Friday. They are to read the book by Monday, November 9th. Reading must be done at home and during homeroom. They will be taking AR tests on the book and writing a paper.

Monday - Read new book 20 minutes and complete noun worksheet.

Tuesday - Read new book 20 minutes and complete the noun w/s.

Wednesday - Read new book and complete advertising/ bias assignment.

Thursday - Read new book and complete verb worksheet.

 Weekend: ** Read the AR fiction book as needed (pace yourself) to complete by due date.

 

Monday Oct. 19th - Thursday Oct. 22

Oral class presentations about the biography book each student chose will start Tuesday. There is a formal paper due with the presentation as outlined in the rubric provided last week. We will have the vocabulary test Friday. Students were given the vocabulary words last week.

Monday - Finish work on the biography presentation: Complete the final written "ink" copy to be turned in, and practice the oral presentation at home many times.

Tuesday - Make flash cards for each vocab word include the definition and an example. Will need to show cards in class for credit.

Wednesday - Write each vocabulary word in a sentence (using it correctly). Highlight each of the nouns in the sentence (concrete, abstract, common, proper). Use your flashcards to study your vocabulary words.

Thursday - Study for the vocabulary test tomorrow (use your flashcards) and complete the grammar worksheet handed out in class.

 

Monday Oct. 12 - Thursday Oct. 16

Students will go to the library Wednesday to get a new book (a biography) to read. There will be an activity assigned to check for comprehension. In addition, students should be studying their vocabulary words. We will have a spelling and vocabulary test on the words next Friday.

Monday - Work on interview activity (15 questions and answers) and study the four new vocabulary words.

Tuesday - Complete the interview assignment; it is due tomorrow. Study new vocabulary words.

Wednesday - Read your new biography & study vocabulary.

Thursday - Read your biography, study vocabulary & complete the vocabulary activity: (write a sentence for each of the 17 vocabulary words, underline the complete subject once and the complete predicate twice, place an "N" over the simple subject and a "V" over the simple predicate)

 

Monday Oct. 5th - Thursday Oct. 8th

Students went to the library Friday and checked out a nonfiction book they should be reading. They were shown the objectives for the activity related to the book before checking the book out. The related project is due Thursday.

Monday - Diary entry (word - Trust), Finish Mini-Page Newspaper activity if incomplete from class, read nonfiction book as needed.

Tuesday - Diary entry (word - Courage) & work on nonfiction book's sharing board activity from class if not completed.

Wednesday - Diary entry (word - Forgiveness) & work on nonfiction book's sharing board activity from Tuesday's class; it is due tomorrow.

Thursday - Finish nonfiction Discover Kids magazine class assignment  worked on Wednesday and Thursday in class; it is due tomorrow. The final copy should be formatted as the rubric described and typed or written neatly in pen.
