IMPORTANT NOTICE:

We still are in need of a LOT of parent volunteer proctors for this year's EOG testing!   Thank you to those who have already volunteered.  However, we still need 25-28 more proctors for each day of testing!  Remember, it is impossible to test without proctors and I am not sure how we will be able to do the required EOG testing if we do not get enough volunteers as proctors!

EOG testing will be on May 21, 22 and 23.  Please check your calendar to see if you can proctor on one, two or all three days of testing!  Proctors will need to be at school by 7:30 and they will be finished between 10:30-11:00 each day.  Please consider helping Daniels by proctoring!

If you can help, please e-mail me at scherry@wcpss.net and let me know the day(s) you can proctor.  I also need to know what team your child is on and a contact phone number for you.

Thanks in advance for your help and I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Welcome to 6th grade LA!  I'm looking forward to a great year!

To start the year, here are some things you are probably wondering about:

Class rules

1. Be punctual and prepared.

2. Follow all directions.

3. Raise your hand if you wish to speak.

4. Respect people, respect property.

5. Always do your best!

Students are expected to remember the Daniels philosophy "Do the Blue"

Be kind and respectful

Lead by example

Utilize responsible work ethic

Establish a safe environment

Daily class procedures:

1. Enter the room in an orderly manner and go directly to your assigned seat.

2. Take out your homework and begin working on the daily warm-up.

3. If you need to sharpen your pencil, do so, and be back in your seat before class begins.

4. When the teacher closes the door, everyone should stop talking and be focused on the pre-game activity.

5. When leaving the class for ANY reason you must have a pass.

Bathroom and locker policy:

Students have 4 minutes in-between each class to go to their lockers and use the bathroom.

Students will be given 3 emergency passes each quarter.  If they use more than the 3 they will make up the classtime missed during lunch.

"While you were out. . ."

1. If you are absent from school on the day an assignment is due or a test/quiz is taken, you are responsible for turning in that assignment and/or arranging a time to make-up your test/quiz.

2.  All late work will get 20 points deducted.  This only applies to absences when the student has failed to turn in their work within the time limit.

IRR (independent reading log)

1. Students are expected to have their self-selected reading book with them every day.  We will have SSR (self-selected reading) time in class; students with no book will see this reflected in their classwork grade for the day.

2. Students are expected to read 60-90 minutes a week.  This will be checked on FRIDAYs -- every 2 weeks.

Supplies:

LA binder OR LA section of binder

notebook paper

pens and pencils

Grading policy

major assessments- tests, projects= 35%

classwork/participation/warm-up= 35%

minor assessments- quizzes= 20%

homework, agenda checks= 10%

Again, welcome to 6th grade LA!  I'm looking forward to a great year!
