Dear Friends of 5M,
It's almost Thanksgiving??!! My the school year is just flying by! Student are reading Heartbeat. Daily they are reading and creating talking points. Talking points consist of questions, concerns, comments, and connections. Next, the students are in a Book Talk group. They discuss their talking points and self-assess themselves daily. I have seen so much growth in the students since the beginning of the year! In Fifth Grade Flip we are studying Connections. I can see these lessons paying off in their daily stamina reading and in their reading of Heartbeat. 5M is almost finished studying Measurement and Perimeter. The assessment for this topic will be Thursday the 20th. Students have also began a Math Review that occurs the first 5 minutes of Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is a review of concepts and skills we have been working on since the start of the year. Students have just about finished demonstrating their knowledge from the first topic in Science, Light.Students either selected to convey their knowledge through PowerPoint or a poster. Students learned an important lesson during this project. They learned that the graphics and pictures they accessorize their presentations with need to connect to the topic. Students are continuing their year long genre study with Mrs. Levesque and myself. On Monday we will be focusing on the genre of fiction, focusing on family.
