Hello English II students and parents!
We have started this year out successfully! So far, we have covered epics, epic heroes, "The Iliad", and many of the Greek gods and goddesses. We have also had a focus on writing this quarter including prompt reading and analysis, thesis statement construction, graphic organizer options and are working now on creating the perfect introduction paragraph.
In literature, we have just begun our journey into the world of Greek tragedies. We are studying the writings of the great Greek philosopher Aristotle, and will soon begin reading one of the best know Greek tragedies of all time, "Oedipus Rex" the first of the Theban plays written by Sophocles. While studying this great work of literature, we are working on vocabulary that is associated with Greek tragedies, for example, the students will be manipulating terms such as hamartia, hubris, and anagnorisis.  Upon the completion of the unit, students will be given the chance to create and act out their own Greek tragedies showing they have learned, analyzed and are now able to use the rules of Aristotle correctly.
I have enjoyed the semester thus far and I hope the same can be said for all of you!
