Dear Parents/Guardians:
Your son's or daughter's science class will be exploring the chapter entitled Science, Technology, and Society. In this chapter, students will learn about the relationships between science and technology, and the role of science and technology in society. By the end of the chapter, students should demonstrate a clear understanding of the chapters main ideas and be able to discuss the following topics:
1. The nature of technology as applied science (Section 1)
2. Types of technology (Section 1)
3. How science and technology each help advance the other (Section 2)
4. The use of computers in science and technology (Section 2)
5. the role of models in science and technology (Section 2)
6. How society drives, and benefits from, technological development (Section 3)
7. Ethical considerations in the use of technology (Section 3)
Questions to Ask Along the Way:
You can help your child learn about these topics by asking interesting questions as he or she progresses through the chapter. For example, you may wish to ask your son or daughter the following questions:
· What main type of technology has been in use for millions of years?
· How are computers used to process scientific data?
· How are models useful in science?
· What primarily drives technological development?
Homework:
1. Students should complete a VIS chart of Chapter 3.
2. Students should identify a problem for ecybermission by Friday October 16.
