May 10th - May 14th

Reading: We will be reading the story Alexander Graham Bell this week. 

Spelling words: saw,draw,crawl,straw,law,jaw,paw,lawn,yawn,and hawk. 

Reading Words: early,learn,science,built,and through. These are words that your child should be able to read this week. Please help them at home with these words. These words will also be included in the spelling test this week.

Grammar: we will be studying about the pronouns I and me this week.

Math: We are on Chapter 26 this week. It is about measurements. We will include the inch, the foot, and the centimeter.

Science: Unit D-- We will start Chapter 11 this week and will work on it for probably 2 week.

TESTING: I sent home a notice concerning our upcoming testing for first grade.  We will then have the Broward County end of the year test for Reading and Math on May 18th and 19th as far as I know. I will let you know if this changes. We will also be giving the Benchmark end of the year test in both Reading and Math the week of May 28th.

I will be reviewing skills with the children for the next week along with our regular lessons. Please go over any papers that your child brings home. This will be a great way to help your child. I ask that you try not to stress your child about the tests. I feel that they should do just fine if they listen and think about what they are doing.

I sent home on Friday your child's user name and password to be able to get on line for the reading book this will also work to get on the Science book. It is on the same website as the Reading. Please let me know if you have any problems. I am still having trouble with the math website. Will let you know as soon as I get it all worked out. Thanks for your patience.

Please have your child read to you each day and ask them questions about what they are reading.

IPlease try to get your child to school by 8:30. Some of them are not getting there until almost 9:00. We start our day at 8:45 so if they are late they will miss some instruction time or we will loose time. Thanks to all of you for putting forth that extra effort.

Your child should bring home papers that we do in class just about every day. Please use these to help your child with the skills that we are studying each week.

If your child brings home his Reading and/or Science book, please make sure that they bring them back to school each day. We use them in class and they will need them daily. Thanks

PLEASE check your child's book bag every day. I have some children who have papers in their book bags from the first week of school. We send home lots of important information that parents need to be looking at. Thanks
