10/12/09: MCSD has started a new program to improve reading comprehension called CALI (Content Area Literracy Improvement). Today we started reading a sciencie ficton story by Ben Bova call Inspiration, and we will use it today and tomorrow as our introductory CALI lesson. We defined vocabulary words in class today and tonight's HW is to write a sentence using the new vocabulary words. As students continue to read the short story they will also note where in the story they encountered the word. Finally, tomorrow they will be asked to answer six questions to demonstrate their comprehension. This CALI initiative will continue all all year long. NOTE: Progress reports for the second nine-weeks grading period were sent home today; please sign the letter saying that you saw the report and send it back to your student's homewroom teacher tomorrow. Thanks. 11/10/09: Students completed the Chapter 10 test today. Students do not have school tomorrow. We will begin working on Chapter 11 Thursday. 11/09/09: We reviewed for the Chapter 10 test today in class. Students have the correct answers for their Study Guide. The Chapter 10 test will be tomorrow, 11/10/09. Students will need to bring their "What I've Learned" sheet with them to class tomorrow to be turned-in. The sheet will count as a quiz grade. 11/06/09: We finished with Chapter 10 today during class. Students received a study guide to work on over the weekend. Monday will be a review day for the students. Tuesday will be the Chapter 10 test. Students need to begin studying this weekend. Chapter 10 contains a lot of information. Students should also work on completing their "What I've Learned" sheet. The Key Concepts and Key Terms can be found at the beginning of each section for Chapter 10. Students should answer the key concept questions and define the key terms. Have a safe weekend! 11/05/09: Students should read the remaining sections of Chpt. 10 in their textbooks. They should also begin to study for the Chpt. 10 test--this is a long chapter and they will need more than one night of study if they are to do well on the test. 11/02/09: MCSD's Dr. Susan Andrews will be visiting RMS on Wed, 11/04/09. Also, this week we will be doing another textbook check for manufactoring defects--it is extremely important that all students bring their textbooks to class on Tuesday, 11/03. Students need to read and study Chapter 10 Section 2 tonight. 10/30/09: We are beginning on Chp. 10 Sec. 2 today. Students are working on an illustration demonstrating balanced and unbalanced forces. Over the weekend, students should review the class work for this week. Have a great weekend! 10/28/09: We are completing Chp.10 Sec.1 today. Students should prepare for a quiz over section 1 tomorrow. Students will be creating a concept map for section 1 in class tomorrow. We discussed how to create a concept map in class today. 10/26/09: I hope everyone enjoyed their fall break this past weekend! We are beginning on Chapter 10 Forces today. Students have received a "What I've Learned" sheet in class today. They will need to keep this sheet all throughout chapter 10. The sheet will be turned-in, completed at the end of the chapter for a quiz grade. Students should bring the sheet with them to class everyday to add more information to the sheet. 10/22/09: Students completed the Chapter 9 Test today. We will begin Chapter 10 on Monday. Progress Reports will be emailed today since there is no school tomorrow. Students should review the material learned on Motion. Have a safe weekend! 10/21/09: Today we reviewed the Chapter 9 study guides. Students should study tonight for the Chapter 9 Test on tomorrow. Students will need to bring their calculators and "equation sheet" to class to use on the test. Next: Forces and Gravity, text Chpt. 10 10/20/09: We are finishing Chapter 9 today. Students received their study guides today and should begin studying for their Chapter 9 test on Thursday. We will review the study guides tomorrow in class and answer any questions students may have concerning Chapter 9. 10/19/09: We are covering Chapter 9 Section 3 today and will complete section 3 tomorrow. Students should begin preparing for the Chapter 9 test on Thursday. Students will receive their study guide in class on Tuesday. Students should read Chapter 9 Section 3 for homework tonight and complete the key terms and assessment questions on p. 320 and p. 325. Students need to bring their textbook in for a textbook check if they have not done so already. 10/15/09: We have now complete Chp. 9 Sections 1 and 2. Students will have an open note quiz over sections 1 and 2 on Friday. Students should study for the quiz. We will have a textbook check on Friday (10/16/09)as well. All students should bring their book from home to class on Friday. 10/14/09: Yes, this is it. We'll continue to use this page for the remainder of the 1st semester, 2nd 9-weeks. |
