Welcome parents and students to 6th Grade Gifted Language Arts.

To get automatic notices when schoolnotes is updated, please add your name and e-mail address. Simply click on the "Click Here" to add my name, and add your name and e-mail.

Remember, www.freewebs.com/dyarbroughla is available for you to find worksheets, rubrics and information that have been lost or misplaced. Click on the link above to access freewebs.  This information is NOT available here at schoolnotes.

As a note, if you ask a question or for clarification and do not get a response from me within two days, please re-submit your question.  From time-to-time I do not receive e-mails from this site.  If you would like to make sure I receive your e-mail, you can e-mail me directly at yarbroughd1@duvalschools.org.  Please, also, make sure to be specific in your inquiry.  If you are asking about an assignment posted on snapgrades, please be specific.  There are several assignments that have similar names.  I will be able to respond more accurately if I know what I need to look at to answer your question(s).

Important note - parents, you seeing your child do work does not always equate to your child turning in work.  I cannot grade, or assign a grade for, something I have not seen and/or received.

Mrs. Yarbrough

ON COURSE:  Just as a note, if you get an e-mail from NO REPLY.COM, do not delete it!  This is a message from your child's teacher(s) coming from ON COURSE.  So far, this is the only way teachers are able to send you updated progress on your child's grades.

Also, if a grade is posted as "No Grade" it means that the grade has just not been posted yet.  It will show as a zero if it has not been turned in.

Thanks!

Donations? If you are able and willing to donate supplies to the classroom, we are really in need of the following:

Tissues

Hand Sanitizer

Disinfectant Wipes or Spray

Computer paper

Pencil sharpener(s)

Grade Appropriate Used Books

This list will be updated as supplies run low. Thank you so much!

Scholastic Book Club Ordering:

Orders from the ARROW catalogues have been delivered.  I am still waiting on TAB, but they should be here any time today (Friday).

New fliers are now available for October Scholastic book orders!

This year students will have the opportunity from time-to-time to order from the Scholastic Book Club.  I will make fliers available whenever orders can be made.  Ordering from Scholastic is completely optional.  I just want to make books available to as many students as I can.  If you wish to order books, there are two ways you can do so.  Orders can be placed by turning in the form on the flier with cash or check (made payable to James Weldon Johnson); OR you can place your order online by going to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs.  Enter yarbrough for the user name and Gemini for the password.  Online orders will be placed using a credit card, but keep in mind that your credit card will not be charged until the class order has been placed.  This Scholastic Book order will be due on FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6 for cash and check orders, and MONDAY, NOVEMBER 9 for online orders.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Thanks so much!

  • Use the New JWJ Writing Plan (which can be found on www.freewebs.com/dyarbroughla) to prewrite you essay on the topic:  Describe 3 of the main characters in The City of Ember.
    • When prewriting, the topic, main point and F.E.D.I. should all be written using complete thoughts, if not complete sentences.  The support (triangles) is the only thing that can be less than complete thoughts/sentences - This SHOULD have been completed DURING CLASS.  Students had the ENTIRE period to work.
  • When finished prewriting, use your planning to create the rough draft of your essay - you will have to add an introduction and conclusion, which are not on your plan.  Each Main Point should be a new paragraph - you decide the order.
