Thank you to all of the parents that helped with the scenery for the concert/play and the art show.

Parents, if you have registered for Artsonia and did not respond to the Artsonia e-mail, please do so. Don't forget to shop for Father's Day gifts for that "special someone."

Please remind your child to read sketchbook directions carefully.  If they forget the book on their class day, there is a basket in the Art Room to place it in the following day.  If books are not turned in by the next class students will be given a zero and the assignment will no longer be accepted. Sketchbooks average to 25% of your child's art grade.

If your child has not brought a smock to school, please send one in a Ziplock Bag.  Please put your child's name on both the smock and name and class on the bag.

The Kindergarten is completing a Castle Project. When done, we will begin work on our portfolios to bring all of our art work home.
1ST grader is starting a project which involves learning about Monet and his garden.  In this lesson, students will begin learning about perspective.
Pre K - 3 has just completed a zebra.  These are adorable!
Pre K  - Spring is in the air! Flowers are blooming in the art room!
The 2ND Grade has completed a watercolor vase of flowers and is now designing their own "Stink Bug?"
3RD Graders Students are currently learning about Vincent Van Gogh and "Starry Night."
Grade 4  has been introduced to Romero Britto.  A contemporary artist.  They have begun to create a "Britto" inspired cake.
The 5th Grade is designing a stamp.  These are very interesting.
Sixth Graders are learning perspective.  Step one was to learn this on the computer.  Easy right? Now it is time to do the same thing with paper, a ruler and a pencil.  Not as easy as we thought.  A very challenging project.  Your child will be very proud when it is completed.
The 7th grade Is working on fish and animals with an antique crayon work of art.  When the project has been colored over with three coats of crayon, students will antique the crayon with black paint and etch in patterns and textures to complete their masterpiece.

The 8th grade is looking at lawn gnomes and garden fairies in a new perspective. I our latest project, students are drawing a lawn gnome or garden fairy.  Next, we will take hold of digital cameras, go outside around campus and shoot nature.  Finally, students will take their best photos and scan in their character to be a part of their photo.  I can't wait to see what these lawn gnomes and garden fairies are really up to!

Grades 5 - 8

Why  Sketchbook assignments?  Did you know...
  •  unlike other subjects, in art, it is judgement that rules.
  • art teaches children that problems can have more then one solution.
  •  there are many ways to look not only at art, but the world around us.
  • the creative process will contribute to a child's way of deductive reasoning.  These assignments will assist in other subject areas.

All students will need a Sketchbook for required homework assignments.  The 9"X12" spiral bound are the best purchase.  Please do not buy over sized sketchbooks as the students need to carry these in their backpacks.  The better quality books will last your child for four years.  It is interesting to watch your child's sketches develop over the years.
