Parents, if you have registered for Artsonia and did not respond to the Artsonia e-mail, please do. You will be able to share your child's artwork with family and friends.  Not to mention that you will see what they have been working on.  Most artwork is held for the "Art Show" held in April.

Please remind your child to read sketchbook directions carefully.  If they forget the book on their class day, there is a basket in the Art Room to place it in the following day.  If books are not turned in by the next class students will be given a zero and the assignment will no longer be accepted. Sketchbooks average to 25% of your child's art grade.

If your child has not brought a smock to school, please send one in a Ziplock Bag.  Please put your child's name on both the smock and name and class on the bag.

The Kindergarten we have just read The Dot.  Students will create a Dot by not making a dot. If you have read this book, you will understand the concept.  This is a lovely story of a child who learns "make your mark and see where it will take you."
1STgraders are learning about Kandinsky and abstract art.
The 2ND Grade was introduced to the artist Gustav Klimt. Students are now working on their own version of "Rock the Cradle".  This lesson will require the children to recognize patterns in fabric and wallpaper so they can create their own quilt.
3RD Graders are learning about contrasting colors and optical illusions in our newest project -
Cityscape.  Which way is up?
Grade 4 is completing their Bobble Heads. Students have created their own "character" out of paper mache and recycled water bottles.
The 5th Grade as an introduction to the Book Fair theme, students will learn about Hawaiian Quilts.  Each student will make their own square to the quilt out of cut paper. Our next project will take up to outer space!  Our "Space Kids" will learn the method of foreshortening while seeing their picture transform right under their eyes!
Sixth Graders will  also take a trip to outer space when they create a "Space dome" and a planet of their own.
The 7th grade has just completed tapestry baskets made out of yarn and rope.  Students had learned about the history of baskets have created their own. As a special note, students in the 7th grade will have an extra week to hand in their "superhero" sketchbook assignment.  All baskets were due in school Thursday, January 26.  This was the completion date for this project.

The 8th grade was introduced to Mosaics.  Students are working on designing and making tiles out of foam board and acrylic paint.

Grades 5 - 8
All students will need a Sketchbook for required homework assignments.  The 9"X12" spiral bound are the best purchase.  Please do not buy over sized sketchbooks as the students need to carry these in their backpacks.  The better quality books will last your child for four years.  It is interesting to watch your child's sketches develop over the years.
