We will have loads of cool classwork mini-projects, as well as a few take-home worksheets to be completed for homework. This is going to be a great year!!!

This week in my class we will begin our closer look at the theme of geography known as Human-Environmental Interaction. We will complete some in-class research, and early next week, we will create a poster for solution on how to make SEMS more eco-friendly! I am excited to see the results that each student brings!

Including: The Nile River, the Atlas Mountains, Lake Victoria, the Great Rift Valley, the Sahel, the Savanna, the Sahara Desert, and many more! Hopefully by the end of the week we will have moved on to the ancient civilization of EGYPT.

We will create an Egyptian cartouche, map out a Pharaohs tomb, Write in hieroglyphics, and learn about the process of mummification.

We will continue looking at the Kingdoms of West Africa (Ghana, Mali, Songhai), as well as the trade/economy/cultures of each civilization.

We will learn terms such as: Elders, Judges, Subsistence farming, Shifting Agriculture, and shaduf. We will also be comparing these customs with our own in the U.S.

We will be learning more about West Africa, desertification, ivory trading, and important rivers within Africa.
