Music Technology Week of Nov. 23rd-24th Unit 1-Melody Unit Question: What is melody and how is it used within a musical composition? Enduring Understanding: Melody is organized in several different ways. It can step, leap or repeat. It has a basic contour, line or shape. Melody can create tension or create a sense of calm. Being able to identify these concepts is key to understanding how music is used within varying styles of music and different cultures. Area of Interaction: Human Ingenuity Learner Profile: This unit contributes to student growth through the following learner profile attributes: Inquirer and Knowledgeable. Students will develop their curiosity as they create a melody following specific guielines. Assessment Task: Students will successfully create and record an original or borrowed melody on the keyboard. To receive the highest score- you must create 2 different sounding sections to your melody, each being 4 to 8 measures long. The beginning section must be repeated at the end. Your first homework assignment is due Tuesday, Nov. 24th. Be sure to have your parents sign the class contract and course outline so you can turn them in on Tuesday. Remember, homework is 15% of your grade.
