WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Health Education:

Another year, another dollar!  Well not exactly!  The dollars aren't available for our schools like they used to be!  But teach we must.  It is always good to see our excited, healthy, happy kids return from their summer breaks.  Their tales in Health of their adventures (and some misdeeds) are always fun to hear.  Our sixth graders have arrived full of wonder and even a little in awe of the 7th and 8th graders.  They share their fears and concerns and all the things that make them happy here at SEMS!  We've started off with personality traits and the importance of communicating and working together.  The 7th and 8th graders are doing some of the same but with the focus of the lessons zeroing in on a more personal level.  The importance of Health education is that this class is truly all about them.  The issues, fears, accomplishments, data, prior knowledge and continuing learning all make for a fun and rewarding 9 weeks.

ATHLETICS

Our FALL sports are kicking in.  Softball and girls tennis just had their first games (both WINS =) ) and football along with our 7th and 8th grade cheerleaders are ready to start.  We have lots of children involved in these programs which means we have lots of parents and families around too.  That is always great to see.  Should there be any changes in our sports schedules please understand that no decisions are made before 1:00pm per our conference guidelines.  If a change is made your child will be given the opportunity to call and let you know.  We ask that you not call our school repeatedly to "find out."  As we get closer to the end of our fall season, more details pertaining to the softball tournament will be forthcoming.  Thanks for allowing your children to help SOUTHEAST SHINE!

 As a quick reminder each child participating in athletics MUST have a series of forms on file with signatures of both parents and athletes.  Any athlete/parent that does not complete these forms will not be able to participate in that seasons' sport until I do have them.   If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at 704-638-5561.  Once these forms are completed during the 2011-2012 school year they are good for the entire school year and all sports.  Winter sports will be here before you know it!  Sports physicals are necessary for each athlete and are kept on file as well. A given physical is good for ONE calendar year.  If you are not certain of the date of your child's last physical please feel free to callor email and check on that.  New this year - sports physicals are all to be completed on a state mandated form so if your child will be getting a new physical please have them stop by my room to get a correct form.

BOOSTER CLUB

Booster club meets each Monday of the month. If you are the parent of an athlete we expect you to help at some point during the school year to assist in getting all the things accomplished for all our athletes. Our Booster Club PAYS FOR ALL EQUIPMENT, UNIFORMS, AND MISCELLANEOUS COSTS FOR EVERY ATHLETE IN OUR SCHOOL.  For this to continue, WE NEED YOUR HELP.  Our Booster Club has its own web site and I encourage you to check on there for notes and updates, schedules, etc.  If you have any questions please call me at 704-638-5561 extension 102.  A HUGE THANKS TO THOSE PARENTS THAT WERE WITH US LAST YEAR AND ARE ALREADY HELPING - WE THANK YOU!
