Southeast Middle School

"Home of the Patriots"

We are well into the 3rd quarter of the 2009 - 2010 school year --- how time flies!

There are numerous activities for your child to enjoy at SEMS.  Our spring athletics are in full force, many of our teams have upcoming field trips, and if your child would like some extra assistance with their schoolwork, every team offers afterschool help (just ask them which days).  Listed below are some of the upcoming events/activities for SEMS students:

  • Thursday, March 10th, PTA/Talent Show @ 7:00 p.m. in the gym.
  • The second 3-week Progress Report for the 3rd quarter will go home Thursday, March 11th.
  • Patriot Palooza Planning session, March 15th, @ 6:30 in the health room (102).
  • Support "Relay for Life" by going to Sweet Skates on Monday, March 15th, 5:00 - 8:30.
  • Spring Pictures are Tuesday, March 16th.  (Uniform free day.)
  • Wednesday, March 17th, is an EARLY RELEASE DAY for students.  Bus riders will be released at 11:55 and car riders at 12:00.  The teachers will be having staff development.  (April 1st will be the last Early Release Day.)
  • 8th Grade registration for high school will take place during their language arts time the week of March 22nd.
  • The Winter Sports Banquet is Thursday, March 25th, @ 6:00.
  • March 26th is Blue Jeans for Babies and a dance from 6:00 - 9:00.

One way you can greatly help your child is to offer him or her ways to learn responsibility.  The Parent Institute suggests the following ideas for helping teach responsibility:

  • Give your child real responsibilities (like chores, planning meals, volunteering, etc.).
  • Encourage your child to do the right thing.
  • Require your child to accept the consequences of his or her actions.

Our Mentor/Mentee program is up and going again.  These meetings allow your child to build a relationship and have another "go to person" in our building.  This mentor will be with your child throughout their years here at SEMS.  The next mentor/mentee meeting will be Monday, March 29th.

We want everyone to enjoy success at SEMS.  Please feel free to call anytime you need us!
