It's an exciting lab!  There will be a quiz on Friday on the dissection. See review games (matching and flashcards) in addition to the 2 virtual dissections to help prepare for quiz on Friday. Please sign and return midterm forms, permission forms and newsletter extra point pieces.

4/30 Emerald scientists will investigate the parts and functions of the skin.  They will observe their skin under a hand lens, listen to the Skin Song and watch Bill Nye's DVD on Skin.  They will use laptops to review the skeletal and muscular systems in addition to skin.  They will also identify the parts of the nervous system and its functions.  Turn in missing/make-up work asap!

Emerald Team Midterms go home May 3.

4/26 The USA Science & Engineering Festival is a national event promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) experiences that will encourage students to pursue related education and careers.  The event will feature more than 100 stage shows and performances, and more than 3000 hands-on activities for science and engineering enthusiasts of all ages.  Admission is free!  The event will be at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.

4/22  Happy Earth Day!  Tomorrow Emerald scientists will review the circulatory system for a quiz on Tuesday.  Check out the matching game and BrainPop as well as other links below to review.  Next they will investigate the skeletal and muscular system to learn the parts and their functions.

4/16 Emerald scientists will investigate the parts and functions of the circulatory system and the flow of blood through the heart.  They will virtually conduct an experiment on hypertension to compare different ages and gender.  They will find their resting pulse rate and their pulse rate after exercise and check their blood pressure. Students will also investigate the parts and functions of the blood, blood typing and diseases of the blood.

Ch. 19 New Vocabulary- atrium, ventricle, coronary circulation, pulmonary circulation, systemic circulation, artery, vein, capillary, hypertension, plasma, platelet, hemoglobin, Rh factor

4/10 Welcome back! Students will identify the parts and functions of the respiratory system. They will measure their breathing rate at rest and after exercise.   Online quiz will be on Friday.  Ms. Pratt will schedule exploratory classes for next year on Friday.

4/2  Students received report cards on Thursday, April 5.  Nine weeks test scores are posted in parent portal.  What a wonderful array of Cell-A-Brate games, children's books, raps, songs and amazing creativity using the concepts we've studied this past nine weeks!  I'm so proud of their progress! Check out some of these projects in the school lobby showcase.  After a pretest, we began our study of the human body by identifying the parts of the torso model. We also learned about the digestive system and nutrition.  Torso quiz scores are posted in parent portal.  No school Friday April 6 and Monday April 9.
