Please note we will have school on Monday, February 15, 2010 as a make-up day!  This is a recent update!  

There's a lot happening in our third quarter of school!  I'm happy to share all of the exciting topics of study!  

    In Reading/Language Art we are working in the Amazing Animals theme.  While reading these fiction/non-diction stories we will draw conclusions and examine cause/effect relationships.  Our Media Specialist, Mrs. Lytle, will be a guest speaker with our fables unit.

    In writing we will continue to edit our small moment stories.  Keeping a journal at home is an excellent way to reinforce these skills.  Encourage your child to elaborate.

     Math topics include subtraction, geometry, time and measurement.  These units have countless daily life applications.  In addition to new skills students will be expected to master skills from earlier this year.  Math skills build on prior knowledge.  Continue to practice addition and subtraction facts with proficiency and speed!

Social Studies topics include our roles in families,community and society. When observing how we are alike and different, customs and traditions will be examined.  We will learn about important figures in history including our presidents and African-American heros. Celebrate Black History month with an engaging biography about Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King, Jr., or George Washington Carver!

     Matter and changes in matter will be our focus in Science.  Thanks to all who attended Science Night.  What a wonderful opportunity to showcase the Scientific process, science tools, technology and Science Fair winners!  Thanks for attending.
