11-3-09 The calendar has been updated. Friday was the last day for our classmate, William. His family has moved to Sugarland. We will miss him.

We have just started our group businesses. The children will be reseraching food prices for their menus, capital and human resources, and overhead.

Tomorrow is early dismissal there will be no extended day. There are parent conferences and report cards will go home. The students did very well. I have had conferences with most of you in the past few weeks. If you want to come by to discuss any questions you have, I will be in my room from 12:30 to 3:00.

Thank you for the wonderful birthday wishes and gifts. I had a great weekend. Between celebrating that and Halloween, I didn't get much grading done. New conduct sheets and graded work will go home in next Tues.' folder. There was no conduct sheet to sign tonight.

10-16-09 The calendar has been updated. Thank you for all the parents that came out to our evening class party. It was good seeing everyone.

All students should have taken home a budget last week. They are to try to do extra chores ( or whatever your family decides) to earn money. You can have them earn actual money or "virtual" money. At the end of 4 weeks we will go on a virtual shopping trip to compare prices & make choices about what we are going to buy with our savings.

Another activity approaching is our annual carving of pumpkins. This will take place in the classroom on Thurs. Oct. 22nd starting at 11:50am. I will need several parent volunteers to help carve the designs & monitor the use of knives. Please let me know if you are able to help.

10-01-09 Today is picture day.The students can wear what they would like to school. Picture $ is due.

 I want to say a big thank you to MS. Hayes for doing our class directory. I looks great & all the kids were ooing & aawing over it. Be on the look out for info. coming about the get- to- know- you party, October 8th at the school. We will be ordering class t-shirts that will be worn on field trips & on field day at the end of the year.

We start our economics unit on Monday & will have new desk partners. We are having reading logs this week as we are not in LDC.

 Thank you to all my parents!! we had 100% join the PTO & I believe we will get a class pizza party for achieving that goal. The PTO is one way to show your children you value their school & I hope in return they will show you, with their efforts, that they value being in school too. We had a great turn out for Open House. Thank you for attending and for offering your words of support. I'm excited about this year. We are off to a great start!

9-9-09 We're trying to accommodate those students who want to see the President's speech & those who don't. I am not planning on showing it in my room since we were told we had to have parental permission from each parent. If you want your child to see the speech, please e-mail me & we will do our best to pull him/her out to see it.

The classroom calendar has been updated. Mrs. Black has a message for extended day students: Classes will not change next week. Students will start going to their elected classes on Sept. 14th to allow all the teachers to go through HISD's background checking process. Reading logs do not need to be turned in on a daily basis. They are due each Mon.unless there is a holiday & then they will be due Tues.

Good morning everyone!! Welcome to third grade. I will be using school notes as one form of communication this year.We had a great morning. A couple of things...

1. our lunch is at 12:50 so I will have some time set aside in the morning to eat a healthy snack while we work. Fruit, crackers, etc. Just no chips or cookies or drinks- other than water.

2. There will be no homework this week. We will do it in class so that I can model what I want them to do.

3. Please sign & return by Friday all beginning of the year forms that go home.
