We also are looking for a little snack (the district say's not to be a sugar fest!).

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Please help your child stay organized. When they come to school without their homework completed, it really slows down instruction for the entire class. We have had too many students having to work on yesterday's assignment during class time and during recess. Recess is a time for me to prep the next lesson and for the children to exercise and blow off steam, hopefully returning to the classroom refreshed and ready to learn. I understand that it is the beginning of school and students need to work on using their systems of homework folders, backpacks, student planners, etc. But if you could help them make these organizational skills a habit, that will benefit everyone involved.

Homework:

Reading: Read and Respond

Math: Arrays and Shares workbook, "Pairs I don't know" basic fact problems (pg 79 student sheet 6), write each basic fact 3 times each. Late work-Finish Array card sets so you can play the math games with the rest of the class.

Social Studies: National Geographic Explorer student periodical "America the Beautiful" worksheet, complete the four personal connections.

Organization: I am requiring each student to have a parent/guardian/or daycare provider sign their student notebook each night this week. Hopefully this will start a good habit of communication between the student and parent about their homework responsibilities each day. If it is not signed it will be considered late work.

Thank you for coming to Open House and Marvista's grand opening celebration yesterday. It was great to meet the families and supporters of our students' education.

I will be contacting volunteers who signed up to play essential roles this year in the classroom. Thank you for your support! It's not too late to sign up if you would like to help out with our art projects or join spearhead the "Clean Room Crew."

Our Room gets vacuumed every other night, but that's it. So dust accumulates. If we had a volunteer to organize a dusting party for 20 minutes after school every month or two, we could keep our classroom healthy.

And thank you to the supporters of our Reader's Theater production of Time Travel today. The students enjoyed having an audience to perform for. They did a great job bringing historical characters to life with their costumes and voice inflection. I look forward to more mini productions.
