Grade 5:

Who’s Your Favorite Musician?

Prepare a report on your favorite musician or band. The report should be no less than one and no more than two pages in length. I would suggest that you use the internet to research your musician of choice. You can of course use school or public libraries as well. Below you’ll find a list of questions that must be answered in your report. You can answer more than these questions, but all questions on the list must be answered. The report must be typed. You can either email your report to me at nzamm1@verizon.net or you may print it out if emailing it is not possible.Be sure to include the sources for your material including books or web sites. You’re invited to read your report out loud to the class, but only one report per artist may be read. In other words, if two people have chosen to write about Taylor Swift, only one person may read their report. Whether you get a chance to read your report to the class will have no effect on your grade. If you’re planning to read your report in class and you’ve emailed it to me, please print a copy so you’ll be ready in case you’re called upon to read it. On the day that the report is due, you may bring in a CD with your favorite song by your musician or band of choice. The song must not contain any foul language or violent disrespectful lyrics. The due date for this report is according to classroom. The dates are listed below.

Blackrock:

Room 4, 11/13/09

Room 3, 11/16/09

Hopkins Hill:

Room 25: 11/17/09

Room 22: 11/19/09

Report Questions:

1. What is the name of the solo artist or band?

2. When was the solo artist or leader of the band born?

3. What kind of music does the solo artist or band perform?

4. What instrument or instruments do the members of the band play?

5. How old were they when they first started performing?

6. What was the performer’s first single?

7. How long have they been performing?

8. What is your favorite song by the solo artist or band?

9. What city, town or country did the solo artist or band come from?

10. What inspired the solo artist or band to pursue a career in music?

Grade 4:

I’m inviting fourth graders to earn extra credit toward their second trimester music grade by performing a couple of holiday pieces during our concert in December. To this end, I have distributed these pieces to the students, and all should have them in their folders. Beginning with the first music class of November, all students should be prepared with an up to date folder and a recorder. Not having one or both of these items will result in the children being marked as unprepared for class. In other words, the only way for a child to be marked prepared is to have both a recorder as well as a completely up to date folder.

Grade 3:

All third graders except for those who may have been absent should have received their recorders by now. If a student has not yet received an instrument and has not been absent this means that the student has not yet paid for an instrument. Beginning the week of 11/02/09 all third graders are expected to be prepared with both a folder and a recorder. Not having either one or both of these items will result in students being marked as unprepared for music. As with the fourth grade, once the children have their instruments, they are expected to be prepared each week with an up to date folder as well as a recorder.
