Welcome to Ms. Mathison's page 

Remember guys you need to make it through the finish line. Even if you are first for the whole race if you start to slow down or stop before you cross the finish line youu can still lose. Same goes for school. We have a little over a week left. School isn't over till 11 on June 22. You shouldn't be either!!

June 11- Today in class we put together our list of words from our Asia ABC paper on a giant poster to hang in the classroom. Then we analyzed the Asia Posters from last week by using them to answer questions on the different regions of Asia. No homework but remember you have a very big quiz next Wednesday on Central and Southwest Asia.

June 10-Today in class we worked on our Asia ABC paper. Homework is to finish the paper if you have not already done so in class.

June 9- Today in class we started off taking ourSouth Asia quiz. Then we began filling in the Asia ABC worksheet. Homework is to fill in the map of Central and Southwest Asia for the quiz next wednesday June 17th.

June 8- Today in class we reviewed our Southern Asia worksheet. I was very disapointed that more than half of my students (and in some classes more than three quarters of my students) did not do their homework. I know we can work together and finish the year strong but we need to keep at it! Homework tonight is the South Asia study Guide.

June 5- In class worked on two worksheets on Asia. Homework is to complete the Southern Asia worksheet.

June 4- In class we  finished watching the video on Asia and explained how what we saw related to the five themes of geography.

June 2- In class we took our southeast Asia quiz. Then we worked on our Asia posters.

June 1- In class today we worked on our Asia posters. Homework is Southeast Asia study guide.

May 29- Today in groups we began reading about different regions in Asia. We will create a poster to share the information with our classes tomorrow. Homework is to study for your quiz on Tuesday and and to have a great weekend!

May 28-In class we finished and reviewed the cool information we found about Asia on our Asia Atlas and Almanac worksheet. No homework.

May 27-  In class today we began filling out our Asia Almanac and Atlas worksheets. Then we reviewed our Southeast Asia maps.

May 26-East Asia Quiz and we created our Southeast Asia map.

May 22- In class today we reviewed our  Homework is optional study guide.

May 21- Today we went ot visit the giant inflatable globe. You guys were great! No homework.

May 20- In class we watched a video called Tune in Japan. While watching we learned all about Japan's geography. Isn't it cool that the population density of Japan is the same as if you took half the population of the United States and put them in Indiana!

May 19- In class we reviewed our East Asia map. Remember the quiz is on Tuesday May 26. Homework is to create sentences for our East Asia Physical Features Vocabulary.

May 18- In class we read Chapter one section one in our World Studies Asia and the Pacific book and answered some questions. Homework is to fill out the East Asia Map.  Quiz is on Tuesday May 26th. (Next Tuesday) Remember for Asia we not doing capitals because we are doing both Political and Physical features.

May 15- In class we worked on an Asia physical Worksheet. That is on those period we were not at the AWESOME apple orchard for the science field trip. Homework is to complete the worksheet.

May 14- In class we worked on our Discovery Activities about Asia packets. Homework is to write down three things you would like to know about Asia.

May 11- 13 We shared our UN picture books. We also made mental maps of Asia and decided what we wanted to learn about the continent.  

May 8- Half day for you lucky students. Today we peer edited our rough Drafts of the UN picture book. Homework- Completed final draft due Monday.

May 7- In class we wroked on our rough draft of the UN picture book. Homework is completed final draft due tomorrow.

May 6- In class we worked on our outline and rough draft of the UN picture book. Rough Draft due Friday.

May 5- We analyzed some picture books noticing how the authors conveyed information without simply stating things out right in preperation for writing our own picture book. We also began our outlines for our own picture books on the United Nations.

May 4- In class we reviewed the information we collected on the New York Trip. We also looked at some Picture books and how the authors conveyed information without simply stating things out right in preperation for writing our own picture book.

May 1- Happy May Day. 7th grade is NYC or Bust!

April 30- In class we finished writing our notes on Things to Remember about the United Nations. Homework is to go to bed early and be prepared for our trip tomorrow.

April 29- In class we shared our metaphors and then began writing notes on important things to remember about the UN. Homework is to finish your final final postcard on Darfur.

April 28- In class today we finished filling out our six organs of the UN worksheet. For homework you must create a metaphor to show how the six organs of the UN do different jobs but work together to accomplish the goals of the UN.

April 27- In class we filled out our six organs of the UN worksheet. No homework.

April 20-24- No school - Yay!! Spring Break

April 17- In class we reviewed the answers to our questions about the history of the UN. Then we read the Lorax and discussed sustainable development and the potential environmental hazards of the future. For homework over the upcoming week do 30 minutes of anything to help the environment.

April 16- In class we answered some questions on the history of the UN. No homework

April 15- In class we presented our projects on current issues in Africa. No homework

April 14- In class we presented our projects on current issues in Africa. No homework

April 13- I was out on the poetry for Veterans field trip today. To those of you who went congrats on a great trip. To those of you who were in school, you created questions based on different levels of thinking. Don't worry too much if you struggled with the paper we will go over the questions together. Homework is to finish the worksheet of questions.

April 9- In class we saw some examples of memory cloths the women of South Africa made about their life changing experiences during Apartheid. Then we made our own based on life changing experiences you have gone through. Homework was to fill out the positive image reflector paper.

April 8- In class we presented our projects on current issues in Africa. No homework

April 7- In class we presented our projects on current issues in Africa. Homework is to complete the map paper and guided reading paper and to get your all of Africa quiz signed.

April 6- This morning we had the last of our ELA MCAS testing. Those classes I met with read pages 208-211 and filled out answers about what they read about Apartheid. Homework is to fill out the map paper.

April 3- In class we presented our projects on current issues in Africa. No homework

April 2- Almost through MCAS. You can do it guys! You have had two weeks, two help sessions and an MCAS free weekend on the current issues in Africa project. I know most of you worked hard in class on this. I cannnot wait to see them tomorrow! No homework.

April 1st- No I'm sorry. The MCAS testing was not an elaborate April Fool's Day joke played on you. However I know you prepared well and hopefully did well. I met with Blocks D, E, B and C today. We worked on our projects whose due date has changed to Friday. Make sure you are ready. We have spent a lot of class time working on this so you should not need to work on it at home. No homework.

March 31- Hopefully the long composition went well for you all during MCAS today. I met with Blocks A, and F today. We worked on our projects that are due Friday. Make sure you are ready. We have spent a lot of class time working on this so you should not need to work on it at home. No homework.

March 30th- Today we worked on our projects due friday. This was the last day when I will see all of you in one day before the project is due.  You may not work on it at home and I will most of you only once more before the project is due. You may work on it during my late night tomorrow but not at home. Good Luck on MCAS tomorrow. Homework is to get a good night sleep and eat a good breakfast.

March 27- We worked again in the Library on our project. It is due Friday. Make sure you get it done in time!

March 24- Today we were in the Library. We are researching an issue affecting Africa today. You should be prepared to present either a poster, powerpoint presentation or newscast on your topic next wednesday. No homework.

March 23- In class we finished watching the video on the conflict in darfur and discussed it in class. Homework is to fill out the postcard rough draft paper.

March 20- In class we finished our jigsaw of primary sources and began discussing the genocide in Darfur. Homework is to fill out the student to activist paper.

March 19- In class we began our jigsaw activity with our primary sources. We met in groups to review the primary sources we read and then met with people who had not read the same stories to share information.

March 18- In class we took our all africa quiz. Good luck.

March 17- Today in class we reviewed learning styles and African countries and capitals. Homework is to study study study for the quiz tomorrow. Also make sure you complete the study guide. Remember there are resources to help you. Sheppardsoftware.com and there are flashcards on my site.

March 16- Today we finished reviewing chapter 2 section 4. Homework is to get your North, Eat and West Africa quiz signed. Also if you bring in proof of studying you can get a card to bring with you into the All Africa quiz Wednesday.

March 13- No school because of professional development. Enjoy the day off.

March 12- In class today we reviewed the information gathered on the history of Africa's Independence.

March 11- Today we finished our posters on African Indigenous Religions. Homework is to read pages 57-63 on Africa's Independence.

March 10- In class we finished taking notes on African Indigenous religions and we began making posters about the topic.

March 9- In groups we reviewed the packet on African Indigenous Religions. Next we filled out a concept summary paper on the topic.

March 6- In class today we finished reading our African creation myths. Homework is to read the packet on African Indigenous Religions and answer the questions. Remember what I said in class. This is a long assignment so don't expect to do it sunday night in 10 minutes! * Please note due to the honor roll ice cream party G block does not homework tonight. 

March 5- In class we began reading our African creation myths. No homework... you're welcome. :)

March 4- In class today we took our North, East, and West Africa quiz. Homework is to fill in the Map of All of Africa. There are a lot of new countries but you have two weeks till the test. Space out your studying.

March 2- Snow Day... In March! Well in like a lion, out like a lamb.

February 26- Today in class we had our "Folk Tale Thursday" We read and took notes on a couple of folk tales. We also filled in a blank map with the countries of North, East and West Africa. Homework is to do something nice.

February 25- In class today we took our North and East Africa quiz. Homework is to fill in a map of North, East and West Africa.

February 24- In class we played GINGO to review the countries and capitals of North and East Africa. Homework is to fill in the study guide for your quiz tomorrow on North and East Africa.

February 23- Today in class we worked on our Long Lost recipes worksheet. Homework is to bring in proof of studying for the Quiz on Wednesday.

February 13- Today in class we read a Folk tale and then participated in the World Winter Games. Homework is to have a great vacation.

February 12- In class we finished up our compare and contrast of the different cultures in Africa.

February 11- Today in class we read about different cultures of Africa and began to compare andcontrast them. Homework is to fill in the North and East Africa map and to complete your final flag. Remember for Friday Wear White, Bring money for roses and candy if you would like to purchase some and DON'T FORGET THE FLAG!!!!
