What to expect on this page:
  • School Counselors hope to create a comprehensive program that meets the personal, social, and academic needs of the students. They do this in many ways. Here are just a few strategies counselors use to meet the needs of their students.

Individual Counseling
  •  This is an individual service provided to one student. This service helps students with educational, personal, social, or career concerns. It is a confidential relationship that can last between 1 - 4 sessions normally.

Group Counseling
  •  This is when School Counselors form groups of students who have similar concerns. A group may be formed for students who are struggling with anger, divorce, grief and loss, sadness, self-esteem, and other similar issues. These are positive groups that get similar children together to support each other with similar concerns by talking and discussing their feelings and situations.

Character Education/Presentation
  • This year character education will be dedicated to teaching students about goal setting, good judgement, integrity, kindness, perseverance, respect, careers, responsibility, self discipline, courage and patience.
  • We will also be incorporating a bullying program called Steps to Respect. This program is very popular across North Carolina. It is reserached based and you would like to take a look at it please come by my office. The program teaches respectful behaviors and how to deal with bullies in any school.

Consultation Services
  •  School Counselors collaborate with many agencies and people. Some examples of collaboration may be with mental health, supermarkets, retail stores, interpreters, religious organizations, DSS, police dept., fire dept., gas stations, and restaurants.
