                                             Updated on February 9, 2012

We made it to 100 days of second grade.  The students did a great job on their projects and presentations.  Some students collected pennies,  stickers, pom-poms, built lego creations using 100 legos, beads, and goldfish, etc..  They were all excited and proud of their projects.  They also enjoyed the 100 day trail mix and activities.

There are many things going on at school this week and next week.  The school book fair is next week.  The students were challenged to read 280 minutes between now and the 15th.  They all should sign the reading pledge and bring back to school to be displayed.  Parents need to log them into the site: www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/minutes to keep track of their time.  We received  bookmarks to keep track of how many minutes we read at school. Please have your child fill in any minutes read at home on the bookmark. You can put these minutes on the site at one time or each day.  Thank you for your support with this reading challenge. Along with the book fair we are collecting a dollar from each child to support "One For Books". They can buy a heart at lunches to be displayed in the school and all money will go to help buy books for children in need.

In addition to the bookfair, student council is having their annual valentine's heart sale.  Students can buy a heart for someone and redeem their heart for a healthy snack on a specific day.  I am not sure what day that will be but will let you know.

We were lucky to have Fr. Dan visit us this morning and talk to the kids about First Penance.  He talked about what happens when they go to confession and what types of behaviors they might need to confess.  He also reminded them not to be nervous.  If they are nervous it is okay and the priest will help remind them what to do.  We are focusing on reconciliation in religion over the next couple of weeks.  I hope everyone was able to make the parent's meeting on Tuesday.  If not, Mrs. Finnerty will contact you.

Next Tuesday we will be having our valentine's exchange and small snack.  Please send in valentines to exchange on Tuesday morning.  We will be making a special bag to collect the valentines.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Angela Standish
