                       Happy Catholic Schools Week!!!

We have many changes and special things happening this week so it will be a lite work week. Tomorrow is student appreciation day.  The students can dress out of uniform and will receive a free lunch and snowcones.  We will be have a movie and popcorn in the afternoon.  On Thursday we will be going to a magic show in the morning and see the school talent show in the afternoon.  We will end the week with a school mass.

We are trying to keep up with our handwriting.  We have learned the cursive letters j and p so far this week.  We will try to get to  the cursive a, d, and g too.  In grammar we are learning abbreviations and in phonics our focus is on the digraphs /th/, /sh/, and /ch/.  We will continue working through lesson 11 next week.

In religion we are learning how the Holy Spirit helps us find peace.   The Holy Spirit helps us forgive  and look into our hearts. We have been learning about the difference between a sin and temptation or a mistake.  We are continuing to prepare for the Sacrament of Reconcilitation.

In math we have been practicing subtraction of double digits with and without regrouping.   We will finish up this chapter next week.

The 100 Day project directions and rubric went home last week.  It is due on Monday.  Please make sure your child is thinking about what they can do and even start it before the weekend.    On Monday we will celebrate our 100 days of second grade with many different "100" activities. Look for the "100 snack mix" note to come home Thursday.  The students will be sharing their projects with the class on Monday.

Last week we were doing an activity on proper nouns and the class had to write the name of the street that they lived on.  I was surprised how many children did not know their addresses.  I really think it is important for children to know where they live and their phone numbers in case something, God forbid, would happen to them.  Please go over with your child their address and phone number to make sure they know it.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Angela Standish
