We are in need of some Clorox disinfecting wipes please.

Reading Class: We continue to work on the short vowel sounds /a/ /e/ /i/ /o/ and /u/. We are also working on rhyming words, contractions, word endings (-s, -ed, -ing), the sound of /th/ and /sh/, and s-blends (sp, st, sk, sl, sn, sm) in addition to comprehension skills and decoding strategies. Have your child memorize the reading vocabulary words, practice the High Frequency words, and read daily.

Reading and Language Tests are given every Friday.

Spelling- we are learning about word families such as
-un,-ut,-us,-up. This week Unit 7 words have the short /u/ vowel sound. Please use the study sheets to help your child practice for our weekly spelling test which is given every Thursday.

Language-we are practicing word order in sentences and identifying naming parts and telling parts of sentences.  Practice proofreading to find mistakes in spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.

Math Class: We are working on Topic 6 "Addition Facts to 12". This includes facts with +0, +1, +2, Doubles (5+5) and Near Doubles (5+6). Refer to the math CD that was given out at Open House and review homework for specific concepts.  Students should be able to identify number words one through twenty and ordinal numbers first through twentieth. Students should practice reading charts such as their ancillary schedules, graphs, and calendars.  Please help your child practice solving word problems involving addition and subtraction. Go over clue words with him such as, "how many more" and "how many altogether". He should also practice his math facts to 12. We are learning about fact families: 3+4=7, 4+3=7, 7-3=4, 7-4=3.

Social Studies: We are learning about Fire Safety, reading timelines, and the First Thanksgiving (Pilgrims/Indians) . We are working on Unit 2, "In My Community" which includes map skills: cardinal directions, reading a map key, locating Houston, Texas, and North America on a map. Vocabulary words include: neighborhood, community, continent, ocean, leader, mayor, town, city, state, country, law, north, south, east, and west.

Please help your child at home with these concepts.
Thank you,

Mrs. Dean
