Get Real Reading

Amy Kratzer

February

We are trying to answer the question: What can you learn by studying the lives of others? As we answer this question we will focus on the following reading skills and strategies: previewing/predicting, problem/solution and character analysis. We will be reading about Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, and Olympic stars.

Course information

Welcome to Get Real Reading! In this exploratory class, students will spend a semester focusing on the following reading skills: previewing, self questioning, making connections, visualizing, knowing how words work, monitoring, summarizing and evaluating. Within a framework of inquiry questions, students will improve their reading skills through centers, reading aloud and silent reading, games, small groups and reading response projects.
