Kinderbee News from Our Hive

(November 16th- 20th)

Hello Kinderbee Families!

I cannot believe that we are already into the 2nd nine weeks of school, and it is the week before Thanksgiving.  This year is flying by!  The children and I are having so much fun each day.  Since Thursday is our Thanksgiving celebration, we are doing lots of activities this week to be ready for that.  We can't wait to share them with all of you. Just a reminder...our celebration will begin AFTER our school-wide Thanksgiving Chapel on Thursday, November 19th.  Chapel begins at 8:30, and our celebration will begin after chapel is over.  We will conclude our celebration with the special Thanksgiving lunch at 11:00.  Please feel free to join us!

** Please don't forget...every child's "thankful leaf" and harvest snack item are due tomorrow.  Some have already turned theirs in, but if you haven't please return them tomorrow.  Thanks!

Here's what we'll be up to this week:

Bible
Lesson 12: God Speaks To Moses

Scripture Text:  Exodus 3-14

Target Truths

1. There is only one true and living God.

2. Miracles are special acts of God that have a purpose.

3. God speaks to us through the Bible.

4.  God speaks to us through parents and teachers.

5.  We are never to worship idols.

Memory Verse:

"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever."

Psalm 107:1

Please keep reviewing these verses at home:

1.  Genesis 1:1
2.  Genesis 1:31b
3.  1 Peter 5:7a
4.  Psalm 23:1
5.  1 John 1:9a
6.  Ephesians 6:1
7.  Romans 3:23
8.  Psalm 127:3a
9.  Ephesians 4:32a

10.  Psalm 139:17a

*  Please spend some time reviewing the verses with your child.  Our goal is to help the children commit God's word to memory, so that when they need it to protect themselves from the fiery darts from Satan, they'll have it!  They'll be able to stand firm against Satan and his temptations!

Math
We're doing theme-related math activities this week, while we review telling time on the hour, and the value of a penny.

Language Arts

Our curriculum includes Phonemic Awareness activities, Phonics instruction, Decodable readers, Sight Word instruction, and more

This week we'll review"Ii", and introduce "Ss"..   Please continue to review decodable readers 1 and 2 at home each night. Don't forget...I'll send these decodable books home as we master them.  Your job is for you and your child to read these books together each night!  I can't wait for you all to hear your children reading these books...you are going to be so proud!

Words to Practice

Reading List #4 will come home this week.  Please take time to review these words with your child each night until the words are mastered.  Once those words are mastered, then return the list to me.  Thank you in advance for helping your child become a great reader!

Don't forget, our Language Arts block also includes:

-  and more!

We spend lots of time on Language Arts each day.  Just wait and see what your child will be able to do as our year progresses.  You're going to be pleased...I just know it!

HERITAGE STUDIES/SCIENCE

We learn about Heritage Studies and Science through "units of study".  All units are taught from a Biblical world view, highlighting God's perfect design to our world, and all things in it.

In November, our unit of study is on Fall and Harvest time,  being thankful for God's blessings, Pilgrims and Indians,  and Thanksgiving.  We'll be doing lots of fun activities all month long.  We'll wrap up our unit on Thursday, November 19th, with a school-wide Thanksgiving chapel, our Thanksgiving Celebration, and special lunch.

RESOURCES (12:00 - 12:30)

Monday:  Music

Tuesday:  Jump and Learn (starts in September)

Wednesday:  Art

Thursday:   Library

Friday:  a variety of class activities (correlating with unit of study)

The Buzz...

1.  Thanksgiving Chapel and Celebration:  Thursday, November 19th.  Chapel begins at 8:30 a.m.  Our celebration begin after chapel is over.  We will conclude with lunch at 11:00 a.m.

2..  November 23rd-27th:  Thanksgiving Break/No School for Students and Teachers

5.  Chapel is on Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m.  The children are required to wear their chapel uniform (green Pinewood logo shirt and khaki bottoms) on chapel days.  The green Pinewood logo shirts and sweatshirts went home on Friday.  Everyone should now have one, so please remember to wear it on Chapel day.   Parents are always invited to attend.  Please sign in at the office, get your visitor's badge, and meet us in the Sanctuary!

6.   Please send a water bottle filled with water (and labeled with your child's name) every day.  All that learning makes us thirsty.  We don't have a water fountain in our room.  The water fountain down the hall is very tall and we are all little, so our shirts get soaked when we try to drink out of it!

7.  DON'T FORGET...Anyone having ANY contact with the children MUST be Covenant Care trained.  This includes field trips.  I always recommend that BOTH parents get trained.

** Training lasts about an hour.  Please call the school office if you have any questions about Covenant Care training.

8.  Be sure to look at the websites and Kindergarten games that I've attached to the bottom of these notes!  All of these sites are safe for the children, plus there are great educational games to reinforce skills your children are learning in class.  Check 'em out!

Classroom Wishlist (No Obligation, NO Pressure!)

glue sticks

cool stickers

treasure box items

timer

colorful EXPO markers (for our centers)

* Thanks to you all who have already sent in some of these wish list items.  Our class greatly appreciates your support!

Please keep the children and me in your prayers each day. If you ever have comments, questions and/or concerns, please feel free to contact  me.  Remember, we're in this together as partners for the children.  God bless you all!

In Christ,

Mrs. Terhune
