Newman's News
If your child has me for homeroom, please remember to sign your child's agenda each night. If you have a note for me, please remind your child to show it to me as soon as he/she arrives in homeroom. This year we will be working on Spelling, Grammar, and Social Studies in homeroom. It is very important that your child arrives to school on time so that the day can begin smoothly and they have this time to complete the morning assignments. If your child is late coming to school, this work will have to be completed at home because this is the only time your child has in homeroom all day long.
All fifth grade students have me for Science class. First, let me be the first to tell you how much I love teaching Science and working with your child. My number one goal this year is for your child to be excited and successful in my class. We will be studying 4 major areas in Science this year.
1) Weather and Climate
2) Landforms
3) Ecosystems
4) Force and Motion
All fifth graders are required to keep a Science Notebook that will include all vocabulary, reflections on experiments and assignments for class, and all the notes we take in class. Our textbook does not cover all of the material your child will be expected to master for fifth grade. This notebook will also be used for a continuous review in preparation for the Science EOG at the end of the year. All vocabulary and other tests will be cumulative. Therefore, your child should be bringing home his/her Science Notebook at least 2 or 3 nights each week to review what we have learned in class and to continuously review vocabulary. YOU SHOULD EXPECT TO SEE THIS SCIENCE NOTEBOOK COME HOME AT LEAST ON TUESDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHTS. Hopefully, assigning the days the notebook comes home will help those students that are struggling with organization issues to be better prepared. Below you will find a list of ideas to help your child be successful in Science this year.
Steps to Success in Science
1) Pay attention and actively participate in class.
2) Turn in all assignment on time.
3) Reread and study science notes at home at least 3 times a week.
4) Continue to study vocabulary.
5)Study over the Testing Questions.
