Southeast Middle School

Educating,Everybody,Everyday!

Happy New Year Patriots,

I do hope that everyone had a wonderful Holiday season and is rested up and ready for the remainder of the year. We are almost halfway through the 2011-2012 school year. The end of the second quarter is January 20th. Thanks to everyone, we have had a very successful 2011. The 2012 part of this year is promising to be even better.

Many people at New Years make resolutions for the coming year. Southeast made theirs in August with our mission statement, ”Educating, Everybody, Every Day.”  The school year calendar runs from August To June, but I guess we could take advantage of this opportunity to recommit to our mission statement as our New Year's resolution.

This recommitment will take the efforts of all teachers, parents and students. Working hard to ensure that the objectives are met in June will take everyone communicating regularly. Staying connected and keeping lines of communication open is not hard, it is just hard work. The easiest way for everyone to stay connected is through the use of the school agenda your child carries each day. The agenda will keep you alerted to homework assignments and teacher comments. The agenda can also be a means of communication back to your child’s teachers. The expectation is that the teacher and parent are to sign the agenda daily.

There are other means of communication that can assist this process as well; monthly newsletters, the SEMS website, Connect Ed messages, emails, school marque, student led conferences, parent conferences, 3 week progress reports, report cards and of course phone calls. If there ever is a situation that needs clarification please don’t hesitate to call for assistance.

In addition to a new year, we are excited to announce the addition of three new staff members. Elizabeth Canipe, 8th grade Science/ Social Studies, Kimberlie Harmon, 8th grade Language Arts and Patricia Wyatt, 7th grade math. All three are UNCC December graduates that will enhance our teaching staff.

In closing, we look forward to the 2012 recommitment and to an improved line of communication between the administration, teachers, parents and students. We cannot do this alone and do appreciate your support.

With Patriot Pride,

Louis "Skip" Kraft

Principal
