3A Homework and Weekly News

WANTED:  Volunteers to help with our Lenten Retreat!  Please send in the retreat volunteer letter if you can help in any way for our March 8 retreat.  We need lots of parents to help as the students will partake in a seder meal.  It is a beautiful day.  I hope you can take this day off from work to be a part of your child's special day.  Return the forms (from last weeks' red Thursday folder) as soon as possible.  Thanks so much.

Can you contribute something towards our "Movie Night" basket for the Denim and Diamonds fundraiser?  Please send your donations to school by Friday, Feb. 10.  We appreciate all of your support in making this basket.

Homework:

Math - Simple Solutions Lesson 80

Social Studies - Read your chapter to be prepared for the Open Book test tomorrow.

Spelling - Study words for test

Reading - Read your Battle of the Books Book for 15 minutes.  The next book report is due on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

 Looking Ahead....

Reading/Spelling -  We will read one of my favorite stories next week, "Ramona and Her Father".  The students will create a problem/solution chart while reading the story.  The spelling words next week are homophones. 

Vocabulary - We will begin making flash cards for Unit 11.  The test will not be until the following week .

Language Arts - The students will visit the ComputerProject Lab to gather research for the compare/contrast piece of writing.  We will use a Venn diagram to record our comparisons and differences.  The writing process will take place at school.  By Thursday, students will have written their first draft of the two paragraph essay.

Math - We will be reviewing Chapter 6 Division.  Our test wil be on Wednesday, Feb. 15.  Please continue to practice multiplication and division facts at home.  Having these facts memorized helps the students make the leap to the new concepts much less frustrating.  Thanks for all of your help.    

Religion - We will learn why Jesus teaches us to be humble.  We are reading the scripture story "The Pharisee and the Tax Collector".  We are learning that parables teach us a lesson. Our test will be on Wednesday, Feb. 15.

 Science -  Our next unit will be Chapter 4 Heat.  We will learn how to use thermometers to record an increase and decrease in temperature.  We will identify thermal energy and learn the difference between thermal energy and heat.
