HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break........ I enjoyed every minute that I was able to spend with my family and now I am ready to get back to work and get you guys ready for the CRCT!!!!
****I wanted to begin by letting you know that you should need a new Science composition book by now. We usually start with a new one the second semester and it should last you until the end of the year. If you had a rough 1st Semester, this is your chance to start over fresh with your studying habits and behavior in class. Take advantage of the opportunities that you have been given.****** We are going to use this first week to review our Benchmark 2 and go over the correct answers. We will also be preparing our vocabulary cards for this unit, which so happens to be "Genetics". Here are a few supplies that may come in handy this Quarter: - your new composition book - a large pack of index cards - colored pencils/ and or markers Project for "Genetics": Each student will be doing a "Genetic Disorder" Brochure. You will be choosing from a list of disorders that I will provide. I will plan for a couple of days in the computer lab to research and gather the information that you will need for your brochure. You will be required to do some of the work at home as far as organizing and completing your final brochure draft. ****THIS PROJECT WILL COUNT AS A TEST GRADE, SO PARENTS, PLEASE PERIODICALLY CHECK ON YOUR CHILD'S PROGRESS. THEY WILL RECEIVE THIS ASSIGNMENT NEXT WEEK AND IT WILL BE DUE ***** FRIDAY, JANUARY 30TH******** MONDAY 1/5: Classwork: Reviewing the correct answers to the Benchmark 2 Group work...... Something was not working right and every time I would post my information, I could not get it to load on the site. It is working now, so I hope this helps all of you who check the site frequently for assignments. Important Dates: * March 12th: 3rd nine weeks Benchmark that will cover everything covered over the last 9 weeks. I informed the students that any make-up work needed to be completed and turned in by tomorrow. I even stapled a mini progress report into each child's journal. They all showed what missing assignments each child had as well. We are finishing up the unit on "Evolution". Monday 3/9: * Students will be participating in a lab to demonstrate Darwin's observations of the variations in the different beaks of the finches he observed on his journey. It should be fun for the students as well as give them a visual for the topic. * Homework: Students need to begin studying their vocabulary and information on Genetics and Evolution for their Benchmark on Thursday. Tuesday 3/10: * We will be continuing to review the topics that have already been covered. * Homework: Continue to review for Benchmark Wednesday 3/11: * Jeopardy Review Game Thursday 3/12: * Benchmark for 3rd nine weeks Friday 3/12 * Review of scores on Benchmark and areas of strength and weakness. Homework: Enjoy your weekend and prepare for the final 9 weeks and CRCT!!!!! *****I would advise that each and every student be going over the information in their Science Comp. as well as foldables etc. so that they will be more prepared for the CRCT. CRCT is right around the corner. The students will leave for Spring Break and when they return, they will immediately be starting the CRCT for a week and then some. It is a very stressful for students, so please emphasize, as parents, that the more prepared they are, the less stress they will encounter.
