4th Quarter

School has started for the 2011-2012 School year and you will have to come and see our Social Studies room. It has the World's Largest Write-On Map Mural on our classroom wall!!!!

• Something new for our 2011-2012 School Year: We have the World's Largest Write-On Mural on our classroom wall. A grant from EcoLab made this possible!!!!!!  Mr. Larry Hoffman and Ms. Barb Sands worked on it for several days so that we can use it in our classroom. We have been enjoying a "Travelog Project" since shortly after school started!!!
  

• We were awarded another grant from EcoLab!! We will be using Navigation Compasses in several of our classes! We will be able to learn how to use them properly. Mrs. Ball and Mr. Bonne have now set up a course and are ready to use them in PE. How exciting!!!!!
  

Please always look for the Friday Folder with news from WMS. Sign and date the folder so I know that you received the news. Please return the Friday Folder on Monday if at all possible. Blue swipes will be given if not returned by Wednesday of each week.

Looking Foward to: 4th graders from PHS visiting our 5th grade classes. 4th graders will be able to see our State Report Project in with my Social Studies classes and each 4th grader will team up with a 5th grader to help with the end of the year SS test. This will be sooooooooo much fun!!!!

*SOCIAL STUDIES*

WE HAD OUR GUEST SPEAKER FOR MAY. OUR GUEST SPEAKER WAS MY VERY BEST KEPT SECRET, Mrs. Titterton.

SHE HOSTED OUR 5TH GRADE "TO TELL THE TRUTH GROUP" FOR Helen Keller.

OUR TRAVELOGS ARE STILL BEING RETURNED. WE WILL COMPLETE OUR LOGS AND SHARE OUR CARDS AND LETTERS WITH OUR HOMEROOM CLASS IN MAY. THE TRAVELOG MAP IS AMAZING SO FAR.

Check out our "Social Studies Interactive Journal" with the foldable, notes, text and drawing for each unit that we are studying.

The 8 Strands of Social Studies are very important concepts to all of the Social Sciences. We are currently developing the reasoning for the 5th grade study of the United States. We have set up our "Interactive Social Studies Journal" for this school year. It will be a wonderful tool to help record, organize, and process new information.

A big Thank You needs to go out to Mrs. Titterton (We will miss you!) and Mrs. Hill for their excellent job of teaching 4th grade Social Studies. Your children have excellent knowledge of mapping skills, Social Studies vocabulary, and early US History.
