Welcome to the 2011-2012 School Year

 **5th Grade DARE graduation is Thursday 5-24 at 9:00. Parents are invited, but not required to attend**

Week of May 14-18

This week the 5th grade will be discussing rocks and minerals. We will be talking about how each is formed and classified. The students will also have the opportunity to look and different samples to help them understand the differences.

The 6th grade this week will be finishing up the chapter. The students will be discussing how we learn about space and different inventions that have come about from space exploration. They will also be completing a lab activity to better help them understand how the universe is constantly expanding.

 The 7th graders will be starting chapter 17 which talks about the respiratory and excretory systems. This week they will be watching a video to introduce the topic of respiration. We will also be discussing the difference between breathing and respiration.

The 8th grade this week will completing the chapter by discussing how energy is stored in fossils fuels. They will also be completing a lab by creating a 'straw rocket' to better understand potential energy.
