**Second grade has been asked to donate hand soap for the Thanksgiving Food Drive.  Please send in your contribution this week.  Thank you.

**Grandbuddies Day was a great success.  I met many wonderful grands and family members.  Thank you for attending!

This Week's Objectives:

Math:   Reviewing money concepts and counting money.

Reading:  Students should always have a just right, independent reader with them at all times.  This week we begin our third selection, Around the Pond:  Who's Been Here?  We will use the strategies of categorizing and classifying and monitoring our understanding of what we read.

Social Studies:  We  started a unit about communities this week. We talked about the function of a community, how communities world wide are alike and different and we will compare and contrast rural, suburban, and urban communities.

Religion:   Our current  unit focuses on the Seasons of the Church Year.  We will also begin to discuss Ordinary Time.

Technology:   We completed a Venn Diagram that compared our home community to the communities discussed in our text book.  We will write about these differences.  Students will also take a STAR diagnostic reading test for the month of November.  Finally, we will begin to hone our keyboarding skills using Type to Learn.  A letter about Study Island, a web based program that we use for skill and content enrichment and remedial work, will be coming home soon.
