AP Government and Politics:

We will be studying general concepts used to interpret U.S. politics as well as the analysis of specific examples.  AP Gov is designed to provide analytical perspectives on government and politics in the United States.  Major emphasis is placed on political ideology and evolution of its democratic institutions.  For further details and assignment information, visit: https://sites.google.com/a/unioncatholic.org/ap-gopo/    All due dates for assignments are posted on the calendar located on the front page of the class web site.  Please bookmark the web address for easy access.

Composition and Multicultural Literature: 

This course has two distinct yet interconnected areas of focus:  writing and literary analysis.  Students will write expository, narrative, and descriptive essays.  Research methods will be taught and the completion of research papers will be required. **All students must take the senior final assessment for this course; no one will be exempt.  This exam will cover the rhetorical strategies and writing concepts covered during the first semester as well as material from selected literary works. 


Journalism: 

Students will acquire skills in information gathering, interviewing, and writing news , feature, and editorial articles.  Journalism Honors and Honors II students will develop  additional skills in layout, editing, and management.  The course is dedicated to the production of "The Prophet."  For assignments and deadlines, visit the calendar on the Homepage of: https://sites.google.com/a/unioncatholic.org/uc-journalism/     All drafts are due at the beginning of class; do not expect to complete your article the day it is due.  This site should be bookmarked for easy access to daily updates. 



Writing:


  •   All students should have an 8-pocket folder; it MUST have at least eight pockets.  These are available from the UC bookstore or elsewhere.  We will be labeling each pocket according to your class schedules.  Also, each student MUST keep a loose-leaf notebook in the last pocket.  
  • Grammar Workbooks will be stored in Room 103.
  •  MID TERM information: Material form this class will be incorporated into your English class Mid Term; however, you should review your notes on verbs, nouns, pronouns, and paragraph construction, including chunking, topic sentences, concrete details, commentary, concluding sentences, and thesis statements
