Enochville Elementary School
November 2009

From The Office Of The Principal

Thanks to all parents who are participating in first quarter report card conferences.  It is important to have a clear understanding of your child’s strengths as well as any areas that need more support.  If you are unable to attend a conference, please stay in close contact with your child’s teacher in order to make sure your child is meeting academic expectations.  It is our hope that by working together, our children will be successful.

PTA News

Our PTA membership drive has come to an end. Thanks to everyone who joined the PTA.  We appreciate your support through active membership.

Cookie Dough Fundraiser – As we approach the Holiday Season, the PTA will be sponsoring a cookie dough fundraiser.  The money from this fundraiser will help support our matching funds project to place “Activboards” in several of our classrooms.  This brief fundraiser will begin November 5th and end November 19th.  The orders will return before we leave for the Christmas Holidays.  Information will be coming home with your child soon.  We hope that you will enjoy the cookies and support our efforts to bring 21st Century technology to our students.

Visitors At School

It is important for the safety and well-being of our students that all visitors on the Enochville campus wear visitor badges.  They are available in the front office where visitors should sign in upon arrival. Teachers and other employees of the school system have their own ID badges and these should be worn at all times, as well.  Our goal is to maintain a safe environment for our students.  We encourage all parents and other visitors who are on campus to recognize our desire to maintain a safe environment. Parents who visit to eat lunch with your child should arrive a few minutes before the class is schedule to leave the room, sign in at the office and wait for the class to arrive at the cafeteria entrance.  Thanks for following these guidelines!!

10 Ways To Raise A Reader

1.    Read to your child everyday. It’s never too early to start – even newborns respond to hearing you read.
2.    Continue reading together even after your child learns to read.
3.    Make stories come alive for your child when you read. Be animated and use different voices.
4.    Be patient – let your child read aloud at his or her own pace. Offer help only when needed.
5.    Discuss what you read together.  Ask questions, and listen attentively to your child’s answers.
6.    Make reading time special. Cuddle up in a quiet, comfortablespot.  Your child will associate reading with feeling secure, relaxedand loved.
7.    Encourage your child to read at least 15 minutes a day, either to you or independently.
8.    Take along your child’s favorite books wherever you go. Read on the bus, in line at the store, or in waiting rooms.
9.    Take your child to the library often to check out a variety of age-appropriate reading material.
10.    Be a role model – read on your own.  By seeing how much youenjoy reading, your child will learn that it’s a great source ofinformation and fun.
