Standards

ELA7R2 The student understands and acquires new vocabulary and uses it correctly in reading and writing.

May 14-18,2012

Monday- Students will present their book reports today. We will also read some of the Outsiders. We will not have any more WOD. Students can also stop their nightly reading logs. All library books were due last Friday.

Homework- FYI-Text books will be collected tomorrow and fines for damages will be assessed.

Tuesday- Textbooks will be collected. We will continue book report presentations.

Homework-

Wednesday- We will read the Outsiders and discuss various Idioms used in the book.

Homework- none

Thursday- We will hopefully finish presentations.

Homework- none

Friday- We will read the outsiders.

May 7-11, 2012- Teacher Appreciation week!!! = )

Monday- We will continue scrapbook presentations. Students will copy the following from the board:

  1. Choose a teacher and write them a letter that states 25 things that make them GREAT! ( Intro paragraph 5 sentences, List 1-25 reasons in complete sentence form, and a concluding paragraph) This is due tomorrow.
  2. Ask your parents to pick a teacher and write them a short note of encouragement. (20 points extra credit-Due tomorrow)
  3. Teacher basket: I need your help to put together a basket of teacher necessities for our team: pack of pencils, large paper clips, pack of expo markers, colored pencils, markers, post it notes, highlighters. Students will be given 20 points extra credit for each item. They can earn up to 40 points extra credit-Due Thursday 5/10/12)

Homework- Reading log, Teacher letter, and cereal box book report that is due Monday(5/14/12).

Tuesday- We will continue reading the Outsiders and work on comprehension questions.

Homework- Reading log, Extra credit teacher supplies, study for WOD test tomorrow and cereal box book report due Monday

Wednesday- We will read the Outsiders and take a WOD test

Homework- Reading log and cereal box book report is due Monday. Students have had over a week to work on this assignment.

Thursday- Students will begin to present their book reports to the class.

Friday- Fun Day for students who have excelled in behavior this school year. Students who did not earn good conduct grades will stay in the classroom and work on grammar. Fun day students will be outside enjoying games, sports and all around festivities.

Tuesday- Students will work on vocabulary terms from the Outsiders. We will read Ch 4.

Wednesday- Students will be given a book report project that is due next Thursday May 10th for 200 points. We will work on character traits and values from the Outsiders.

Homework- Reading log and work on scrapbook project.

Thursday- Scrapbook projects are due for 1st, 4th and 5th blocks. Students will present them.

April 23-27, 2012

Monday- Students will present their travel brochure. We will begin our Word of the Day again. Students were also given spelling words to write ten times each and have a spelling test on Friday. They are as follows:

April 16-20

Monday- We will finish our novel Among the Hidden and take a test. Students will be given instructions and a rubric to complete a travel brochure. It is due next Monday April 23rd.

Homework- No reading log until next week. Work on travel brochure.

Tuesday- Students will spend a short time in a group working on their brochure. We will begin reading the Outsiders.

Wednesday- We will visit the computer lab to reasearch for the travel brochure project.

Wednesday- We will continue to work on types of sentences. Students will do a review sheet on elements of a book and on making metaphors. These should be completed at home if not finished in class.

Wednesday- WOD test, we will review Ch 10 and hopefully finish the Bully.

Thursday- We will watch a short video on Bullying. Students will read a short story out of the literature book and answer comprehension questions.

Feb 27- March 2, 2012

Monday- Students will create a figurative language foldable. If not finished in class it is to be finished at home. It should include 5 examples, a picture and should be colorful.

Wednesday- We will wrap up Black History Month and read and analyze a poem by Maya Angelou.

It should answer thr following questions: What would make you feel safe from a bully? What rules would you put into place with your peers (not administration)? What could people stop doing in order to KNOCK out bullying at BRMS?

Feb 21-24, 2012

Tuesday- Mardi Gras parade for students to show their figurative language floats and celebrate their hard work.

Homework- reading log

Wednesday- Students will begin Ch 9 in the Holtbook discussing principal parts of the verb.

Homework- Holtbook Ch 9 Ex. 1 (1-10) and Ex. 2 (1-20)answers only and reading log

Thursday- We will review last nights homework and talk about present and past participle verbs. We will also read the next chapter in the Bully.

Friday- Students will take a CRCT prep test over elements that we have covered so far this year.

Feb 13-17, 2012

Monday- We will discuss and students will give examples of figurative language.

Homework- Word of the day test tomorrow, Reading log and 1st and 3rd periods floats are due tomorrow. This is the only project all year that I will not accept late. Students have a rubric and have had a week to work on it.

Tuesday- We will continue to work on figurative language and examples for our Mardi gras parade.

Homework- Reading log, Finish Holtbook Ch 8 Review 1-40 if not finished in class. 

5th block needs to finish their poem to a teacher 

Wednesday- We will read about the history of Mardi Gras parades and krewes.

Thursday- Students will begin Ch 9 in the Holtbook

Homework- Reading log and remember our Mardi Gras parade will roll 1st thing Tuesday morning. Students need to be prepared to show off and explain their floats.

 

 

 

 

Feb 6-10, 2012

Monday- We will wrap up BHM presentations and begin some poetry and figurative language.

Homework- Reading log and if not finished in class Holtbook exercises: Review A, Ex. 8 and Ex. 9. 

Tuesday- We will discuss subject verb agreement and figurative language. I remind my 5th period block to bring in large boxes by tomorrow. We also need wrapping paper all kinds, and markers.

Homework- Reading log, Holt book if not finished in class Ch 8 Ex. 11, Review C, Review D, and Ex. 12.

Wednesday- Subject verb agreement and figurative language activities for Mardi Gras.

Homework- Reading log and Holt handbook Ch 8 Ex. 13 and Review E

Thursday- We will continue to work on subject verb agreement, discuss pronouns and antecedents and if time permits read in our novel, The Bully.

Homework- Reading log and 1st and 3rd block work on Mardi gras floats. They do not have to be shoe box floats. Students can use larger boxes. Please follow the rubric that was passed out.

January 30- Feb 3, 2012

Monday- We will begin Ch 8 in the Holtbook covering subject verb agreement and pronouns and antecedents.

Homework- Holtbook Ch 8 Ex. 3 and Ex. 4 Pgs. 149-150 Answers only, Reading log, and BHM projects. I placed a schedule outside of my classroom for students to present projects starting Wed Feb 1st, Thurs Feb 2nd, Friday Feb 3rd and just a few to wrap up on Monday Feb 6th.

Tuesday- We will review homework and discuss subject verb agreement. We will also read te next two chapters of our book, The Bully.

Homework- Reading log, Holt book Ch 8 Ex. 7, 1-10 and BHM projects. Students need to bring in their posterboard, 5 paragraph essay with a bibliography, and the proper attire to represent their person are due the day they present.

 Wednesday- Students will begin presenting BHM projects.

Thursday- Students will work on compound-complex sentences and read our novel.

Homework- Reading log and Holt handbook Ch 7 Ex. 4 pg. 138 #1-10. Study for quiz tomorrow (coordinating conjunctions, simple, compound, complex, and compound complex sentences, independent and subordinate clauses)

Friday- We will read our novel entitled the Bully. Students will have a quiz on the four types of sentence structure.
