West Rowan Middle School Uniform Policy
2010-2011


The school uniform policy is designed to provide students with the safest and most orderly learning environment possible. The school uniform will be worn every day, all day. This includes field trips, after school events, and extra-curricular activities. Events to which uniforms will not be required will be specifically announced. There are additional dress code items in place in the Student Code of Conduct.

The newly adopted uniform policy is found below:


Undershirts

*White or gray only

*Shirt tail or camisole bottom may not show


Pants

*Khaki or navy only

*Shorts and skirts must be knee length (or slightly above the knee)

*NO skin, underwear or shorts may show below or above the pants while

standing or sitting

*NO embroidery, pre-tattered or holes or patches. This is also addressed in

the code of conduct.


Socks and Tights

*Solid color only--navy, white, gray, black or tan

*If wearing more than one pair of socks, they must be the same color


Shoes

*Closed heels and toes

*Shoes with strings must be laced up and tied

*Boots must be UNDER the pants


Headgear

*NO hats or toboggans

*Must be functional


Accessories

*No graffiti on clothes or body

*Must not pose a distraction or a safety issue

*No lanyards and chains exposed

*Keys must be placed in locker or in pockets, not visible


Shirts

*Must have collar

*ONLY logo permitted is WRMS

*Oxford or Polo shirt appropriately sized


Sweatshirts

*NO hoodies

*White, gray navy or grade-level color

*Crew-neck only


Other concerns

*Drawstring bags may be carried to the gym on Monday and back to the hallway

on Friday.

*Coats, jackets, purses and backpacks will be kept in lockers.



Special Events and Rights of Expression
Students will be allowed to participate in religious expressions to the extent that they currently are allowed to do so under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Special events may be observed periodically and will be specifically announced. *The administration reserves the right to address any other concern that might present itself as a distraction to students during classroom instruction.
