1st Quarter Math Concepts This year your child will be learning a lot of new concepts in Math. The first nine week quarter we will be concentrating on the following math skills: ** Develop number sense by: a. Various representations of a number. b. Place value for rational number 0.001 through 999,999. c. Compare and order rational numbers including decimals, fractions, and mixed numbers with common denominators. d. Estimation strategies/benchmark numbers. ** Operational properties and fluency with whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and mixed numbers with common denominators. ** Flexibility in solving problems using mental computations, estimation, calculators, computers, and pencil and paper. ** Establish relationships and comparable units to estimate measure of an object in both systems. ** Collect, organize, analyze, display, and interpret data. ** Describe, extend, and generalize numeric and geometric patterns using tables, graphs, words, and symbols. • Begin to use and introduce geometric vocabulary and concepts (i.e., measure lengths of sides, diagonals). ** Extend and apply number operations and measurement to solve problems involving perimeter, area, comparing, money, and time. • Extend and apply number and operations to solve problems related to measurement. |
