February 8, 2012 ***The next meeting for PJAS participants is Monday, February 13 from 2:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.*** Science 6: No class today. Homework: None. Science 7: We read the story "Bacteria Cells: the Inside Story" and discussed characteristics of bacterial cell, shape, structures of the cell, and the two kingdoms of bacteria. Homework: Read pages on reproduction and needs of bacteria and complete the handout--due Friday. Science 8-1: No class today. Homework: Read pages 283-285. Science 8-2: We discussed the activity done by 8-1 for relationship of distance walked to speed and time it took; we learned how to calculate speed and average speed. Students completed a bar graph on Excel calculating the time for traveling in certain modes of transportation over the years. Homework: Due Friday: Read pages 290-292 and complete questions #1-4 (#4 is graded and is a graph). Geometry: Students discussed the pairs of congruent triangles found in an isosceles trapezoid and a convex kite; they compared and contrasted a rhombus with a kite and an isosceles trapezoid with a rectangle. Homework: Read Example #1 on page 343. Honors Pre-Algebra: Students estimated percents with decimals. Homework: Page 312 #26-42 evens; quiz Thursday on decimal/fraction/% equivalents and quiz Friday on sections 5-1 to 5-5. REMEMBER TO PRACTICE YOUR FIRST IN MATH AND BE CLASS PLAYER OF THE DAY!!
