Norvell Theater Salisbury, NC TBA "Honk, Jr." is a contemporary adaptation of a classic fairy tale, "The Ugly Duckling". Set in a countryside, this play tells the story of Ugly, a duckling, who is rejected by everyone except his mother, Ida. Ugly is odd looking and made fun of by Henrietta, Turkey, and the other barnyard creatures. Cat offers to be Ugly's friend, inviting him to lunch, only because he thinks Ugly would be a tasty meal. Suddenly, Ugly is missing and Ida begins searching frantically for her son. Two military geese befriend Ugly, who is lost, and try to help him find his way home back to his family. During the adventurous journey, Queenie, Penny, and Bullfrog come into Ugly's life. After many turns and twists, Ugly discovers that he IS different. "Honk, Jr." uses humor, music, and drama to bring the message of tolerance and an appreciation for diversity. ![]() |
