J. Wright English II CP/ English II CP LAB
Parents, I am enjoying working with your sons and daughters. I believe that maintaining a strong connection between parents and teachers assists your son/ daughter in being successful in the classroom. Please talk to your son/ daughter about what he/she is studying at school and try to be involved and supportive in what your child is doing in the classroom. I am available at 864-839-6371 until 3:30p.m. or at the email address listed on this website. Thank you for staying in touch with your son/daughter's progress in my class. Gradebooks are online. Parents may come by the office and get a password/ User ID in order to log into the system and view students' grades for every class. You may also log onto the system with a touch tone phone. All information is updated on Thursday.
This year, I resolve.... To never forget what it is like to be the student instead of the teacher.
Please continue to emphasize to your sons and daughters the importance of being organized in their work and of getting to class with their required materials and homework every day. English II CP The curriculum will focus primarily on reading, writing, and vocabulary. Students have been given papers to send home to be signed by parents. This includes information on expectations, class rules, and required materials. Talk with your son/ daughter and be sure that he is coming to class with the materials he needs in order to be successful. Students have written an autobiography and reviewed common writing errors. This week we are continuing to work on improving our writing (sentence structure, improvement and common grammatical errors.) A great deal of vocabulary study is included along with the reading selecions. We will have a short story test on Wednesday.
English II Lab The English II Lab is focused on motivating students to ENJOY reading as a life-long habit. Students read individual novels of choice, conference with the teacher, and maintain a reading log. Vocabulary is included in this class, primarily literary terms and words that often appear on EOC testing. Your son/ daughter has had the first test on his/her literary terms. They should be reviewing these every week at home. Students are encouraged to read at home-- newspapers, magazines, and varied types of books. Reading that is done at home as an extension of the course will be considered in their grade. Also, please encourage your teenager to watch the news and keep up with current events. One of the purposes of the lab is to become very serious in the challenge of reading their books and to discover authors they especially like. The classes will compete to see who reads the most pages/ books. The students are really "into" their reading. They are excited about their books! Ask them what they are reading. Students will conference with me on their novel reading. They are also allowed to check out their books with me for reading at home. Please ask your son/daughter what novel they are reading in class and encourage them to read the newspaper daily, along with magazines of choice. We will have a literary terms quiz on FRIDAY.
