Use these STEPS to solve a math problem:

              S - Study the problem. Read the question and put it into your own words. Underline                   the question. What does it want you to find out?

          O - Organize the data. What is the most important information in the problem. 
                 Circle anything that will help you answer the question.

           L - Line up a plan. What strategy will you use? 
                         There are 10 to choose from:

                                                  ~ Write an equation.
                                          ~ Draw a picture.
                                          ~ Find a pattern.
                                          ~ Use objects.
                                          ~ Act it out.
                                          ~ Make a chart or table.
                                          ~ Make an organized list.
                                          ~ Create a graph.
                                          ~ Work backwards.
                                          ~ Simplify the problem.


                 V - Verify with action. Now, work out the problem, using mental math, paper and
                  pencil or calculator.
    

              E - Examine your results. Does your answer make sense? Does it answer the                             question in the problem?

A Couple More Reminders.....
  • Please remember to sign planners each night your child is in school.
  • Yellow Take-Home Folders go home on Tuesdays and should be returned the next day. 
  • Students should be reading nightly for a total of at least 100 minutes during the week. Reading Logs are due every morning. 
  • P.E. is on Wednesdays. Don't forget tennis shoes!
