A Note From Mrs. Robbins

I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend!  It was beautiful, and I enjoyed getting out in the nice weather.  It seems like we go from winter to spring every other day, and it sounds that this week is going to get cold again.  With more coats and mittens/gloves coming to school, the lost and found tends to get filled quickly.  In order to help us keep up with things in our class, please make sure to write your child’s name in all cold weather items.  That way, if items are lost anywhere throughout the school, we can find them!  Also, along these same lines, Thursday, we had several students not be able to play in P.E. with Ms. Corriher.  Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes on Thursdays!  With that said, this month is a crazy month for being in and out of school.  For the next two Mondays, we will not have school.  Monday, the 16th, we are out for MLK Day.  Monday, the 23rd, we are out for a teacher workday.  As a result, please be looking for homework to come home the next two weeks on Tuesday.  I really appreciate all the extra work you all have been doing at home to help your child be successful!  On Friday, I will again be assessing your child’s reading through DRA’s.  Please remind your child to read the best he/she can, and sound out unfamiliar words.  Also, at this time, I like to start focusing on self correcting.  That means, when your child sounds out or reads a word that does not make sense in the sentence, please draw his/her attention to it, and make him/her correct the word.  Over time, hopefully your child will need you to correct him/her less and recognize the mistake on his/her own.  Also, as we continue through this quarter, we are going to put a great focus on complete sentences and sequencing our stories in writing.  Please, please, please make sure your child is writing in complete sentences (Not just in writing, but in all subjects).  In order for your child’s stories to make sense, it has to be written in complete sentences and in order.  I appreciate your help in this matter.  Lastly, we will be taking a field trip to Horizon’s Unlimited on Wednesday.  We will be eating a little later than normal, so please make sure your child gets a good breakfast.  Also, please make sure to be on time as we have to get there quickly for our programs.  Thanks!

***This is just a reminder about the Food Lion rewards program.  To participate, parents are asked to visit foodlion.com and click on MVP rewards to link your MVP card to Enochville Elem., school code #213009.  All Food Lion brand products including:  Healthy Accents, Home 360, Nature’s Place, Smart Option, and Taste of Inspirations will earn Enochville a share of the donations.  As always, thanks for all you are doing!  It is a joy to teach your child and see learning taking place!
