GROWING! (This is our school's theme this year! Please help your child to grow as much as he/she can this year by encouraging a positive, can do attitude in all that he/she may do!) When you Enter this Little room Consider yourself One of the special Members of a group who Enjoys working and caring
A Note From Mrs. Robbins Wasn’t the snow so beautiful! I am so glad that the students were able to see the snow, yet not have to miss any school! I can just remember as a kid how I felt when it began to snow and how happy it made me! I hope your child enjoyed seeing it fall, and maybe getting to play in it a little! With that said, we are off to another GREAT week! We are going to be busy this week learning about presidents. With today being Presidents’ Day, we will learn about former presidents, take a vote ourselves, and create a few fun art projects. Next week, we will begin learning about healthy teeth. February is Dental Health Month. I would like for all students to send in a few pictures of healthy foods they can eat for their teeth. These pictures can be printed from the computer, cut from the weekly ads, or magazines and newspapers. I look forward to letting the students use these pictures in an activity in class. In addition to science/social studies, we will continue to plug away with reading! We are really focusing on oral retelling and reading with fluency books that are on our reading level. If your child is reading well, please make sure he/she is paying attention to the punctuation and reading with expression. Like I have stated before, reading is not just how many words/ how fast your child can read. It is reading with expression and being able to retell the story as well! All of these are very important components that will improve as the year continues to progress and throughout the rest of your child’s education. In math, we began a new chapter last week. This chapter is about place value with tens and ones. This is challenging chapter, but one that is necessary for your child to be able to do for years to come. Lastly, I would like to remind all of you about the Spell-A-Thon. The test will be next week, March 1st. On March 5th, we will be sending home the test results so that your child can begin collecting his/her money. All pledge money must be turned in by March 16th. I hope that all of you go out and get lots of pledges. This is a great fundraiser for our school, and it allows us to get great things for our students to use at school! Thank you in advance for all that you are doing!
