Word Strength and Word Building - Grades 4 and 5 - based on roots and prefixes

Vocabulary Workshop - Grade 5

Figurative Language:  puns

      reinforce similes, metaphors, idioms, hyperbole,  personification, alliteration, and onomatopoeia

Literary Elements:  conflict, rising action, falling action, climax, theme, irony

    reinforce setting, characterization, plot, foreshadowing, symbolism

Reading Strategies:  identifying author’s purpose, mood

      reinforce identifying main idea and details, making               inferences and drawing conclusions, sequence, cause and effect,           comparing and contrasting, summarizing, fact and opinion, finding word           meaning in context
