What We're Doing Now:
1) We are finishing our second novel study for the year. Students had a choice of about 15 books, and have been grouped according to their reading preferences. Students will present what they've learned in a group presentation on Friday, 11/21.2) The big news this quarter is the Big 6 Reseach Project, which will count as a project grade in EACH OF THE FOUR CORE CLASSES. Students brought home a letter for you to read and sign explaining the project and expectations for it. A copy of that letter and a copy of their Essential Question, or project topic, is attached under the File Attachments tab on this page. You may download and view this at home.
3)We will be studying nonfiction this quarter, comparing and contrasting it to the fiction genre. We will practice reading skills for various forms of nonfiction, as well.
4) We will also be doing weekly writing workshops this quarter. Students will work on each aspect of the writing process individually, ending with the research paper at the end of the quarter, which is a PART of the Big 6 Project Requirements.
The Wordskills Quiz dates for 2nd Quarter are as follows:
Lesson 3 November 14th
Lesson 4 November 25th
Lesson 5 December 12th
Lesson 6 January 9th
Lesson 7 January 20th

Students have set their own personal reading goals for 2nd quarter. Ask them about those, if you didn't see them in their work folders that they brought home.
If you're looking for reading ideas, see my attached suggested reading list at the bottom of the page, or you can click on some of the links for good book ideas and fun activities, like poetry writing!
The flashcards link at the top of the page has literary terms that all students should know. We have begun with a short list of these terms that students are already responsible for. By the end of the year, we will have covered all of them. It's never too early to start going over those terms!
Parents and students: I am reachable through this website every day. You may email me from the link above and I will respond to you within 24 hours.
