Calendar Math - We determine the correct date for each day.  Review the numbers 0-20, flashcards (fluently adding to 5), count days of school, practice counting by ones and tens to 100. We will be learning the names of coins this 9 weeks (penny, nickel, dime, & quarter). We will practice reading and spelling the number words 0-10.

TOPIC: Subtraction

Common Core and DOK:

K.OA1 Represent subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images, drawings, sounds, acting out situations, verbal explanations, expressions, or equations. (DOK 2)

K.OA2 Solve subtraction word problems and subtract within 10 by using objects or drawings to represent the problem. (DOK 2)

K.OA5 Fluently add within 5. (DOK 1)

Monday- Countdown game on morestarfall.com (set: We are going to learn how counting down may help us in subtraction. closure: Remember that when you count down, the numbers will become smaller. This may help us solve subtraction problems.)

Tuesday - Practice writing subtraction number sentences on promethean board.  (set: Ms. Jeannie has 8 hearts on the board.  I am goint to cross out 3 of the hearts. What should my subtraction sentence look like? How do you know? How can we tell how many hearts I have left?  closure: We can show subtraction by crossing out objects that are taken away.  Count how many dots are left to find your answer. Use the picture/story to help you write your subtraction sentence.)

Wednesday -www.fun4thebrain.com - Can you dig it? (set: Today, we will play a subtraction game on the promethean board.  The more problems we solve correctly, the more dinosaur bones we will get to put our dinosaur together. closure: Subtraction can be fun!)

Thursday - Practice writing and solving subtraction sentences on individual whiteboards.   (set: Today, we will take turns thinking of subtraction sentences and writing them on the whiteboards. closure: You can show a take away situation by writing a subtraction sentence.  You can use a minus sign to show how part of a group is subtracted from the whole and an equal sign to show the difference.)

Friday - Math Assessment - Subtraction (set: Today you will show me what you have learned about subtraction.  closure:  You all learned how to solve subtraction problems very well.  Tell me what your favorite activity was that we used to learn about subtraction.)

The promethean board is used daily in math.

K.RF.2d Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (CVC) words. (This does not include CVCs ending with /l/, /r/, or /x/.)

K.RF.3c (Phonics and Word Recognition) Read common high frequency words by sight (e.g. the, of, to, you, she, my, is, are, do, does). * (words taught to date)

K.RF.4 (Fluency) Read emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding.

Monday - The student will be introduced to the sneaky e rule.  (a consonant e)(set: Write the word bake on the board. Have the students echo the word.  Have them look at the word and tell which letter makes the long /a/ sound. Explain that the e is silent and sneaky.  He sneaks behind the vowel and makes it say it long sound. How do we code a long vowel? We will cross out the sneaky e to help us remember that it does not say anything-it is silent. closure: Remember that when a you have a vowel, consonant, e in word, the e is silent and sneaks around to make the vowel say its name.We code the vowel with a macron and we cross out the sneaky e.) 

Tuesday - Silent e (o consonant e) (set:Show Brainpop,jr video on silent e as a review of previous day's lesson. closure: Remember that the sneaky e doesn not say a sound - it is silent.)

Wednesday - The student will manipulate sounds in words. (i consonant e) (set: Echo 'rat'. Now say it without the /r/. Repeat with more words. closure:Tell your neighbor the sneaky e rule.)

Thursday - The student will manipulate sounds in words. (u consonant e, e consonant e) (set:The word 'stop' begins with the blend /st/.  Say 'stop' without the /s/ sound.  closure: We can make different words by adding or taking away beginning sounds.

Friday - The students will watch a Brainpop, jr video on plural nouns. The students will work in their vocabulary journals. (set: Who can remember what is noun is?)

A flipchart (promethean board) is used daily in phonics.  It is a teacher prepared flipchart that coordinates with the daily lesson.

12:15 - 1:30 CENTERS - Valentine's  Day (card for parents, long vowel activity sheet, flipcharts, journal prompt) We will discuss that February is Black History Month - Brainpop, jr - Harriet Tubman and George Washington Carver
